Medieval Europe was little more than meaningless sleeping around. Francis and Arthur (and Antonio) made a pact to raise the children in the Americas properly, so that they could grow up in a world with a little more meaning. And they kept that promise. That's why sometimes Francis still refers to them as "The New World." Not because it's a newly discovered land, but because they represent a new, more meaningful world than the Europe of his youth.
