You Stay Away From Her (sequel to The Drummer's Daughter)

Chapter 3

"Can you please drive me to the orphanage?" I asked Mike when I had gotten off the phone with Ms Lewis.
"Why?"
"Because they found my mother and she's there."
Mike went stiff. "Oh, yeah, sure."
The whole car ride was awkward. There was no conversation and no music. Just silence.
"Do you, er, want me to come in?" Mike asked.
I shook my head and got out of the car. I started off towards the building before stopping and turning around. I opened the door but didn't get in. "On second thought, please."
Mike nodded and climbed out. We walked up to the building together and entered. We went straight to Ms Lewis' office and I knocked on the door.
"Come in," her voice rang out.
Mike opened the door and walked inside. Sitting on the chair that Mike occupied the day he adopted me, was the woman I had bumped into earlier.
"Ah, Ceneedra, let me introduce you to Maria Johnson." Ms Lewis smiled.
Maria stood up and looked at me with disgust. "I thought you would've turned out better than this."
"She has turned out perfectly fine, thank you very much." Mike defended me.
"And you are?" Maria scoffed at Mike.
"Cen's Dad."
Maria let out a shrill laugh. "No you're not. Her father was a clean man. You're a freak."
I could feel the anger boil up inside me. I could tell Mike knew because he placed a comforting hand on my shoulder.
"And you've turned my daughter into a freak too." Maria continued.
"You may have given birth to her, but she is not your daughter." Mike growled. "And she is far from a freak."
"Ceneedra," Maria said ignoring Mike. "You are to come home with me and I will clean you up."
"Um, no thanks," I replied venomously. "I'd rather not live with someone who thinks the people I care about are freaks."
"I am your mother!" Maria shrieked.
"But Mike is my real family." I told her.
"Like hell he is!" Maria exclaimed.
"Ms Johnson," Ms Lewis said calmly. "Please try to calm down."
"No!" Screamed Maria. "I will not calm down until I have my daughter away from this freak!"
"Let's go," I told Mike before dragging him out of the office.
Maria followed us out to the car. "I am her mother! Give her back!"
"You know what!" I exclaimed walking over to my 'mother'. "You don't own me! You gave me up and you can't just come storming back and demand to have me! See that guy there -" I said pointing to Mike. "- He's raised me for the past eight years. He is my Dad. You might be my mother but you will never, I repeat, never be my Mum."
I got in the car and slammed the door leaving Maria in a stunned silence.
"Drive," I ordered Mike. He took off and we headed home.

MARIA'S POV
That freak of a man thought he could have my daughter, but I would get her back no matter what. I didn't care what I would have to do as long as I got Ceneedra back. I would clean the freak off her and get rid of those ghastly piercings and clothes. First I would have to do my research on that man, Michael Fuentes, as it said on the paper work. I google searched his name and things about a band called Pierce the Veil came up. Perfect. I could get some juicy things from this.

CENEEDRA'S POV
"Well, that sucked." I said as I flopped onto the couch.
"I'm sorry, Cen," Mike apologised.
"For what?"
"Your mother not being how you expected."
"Like you could have done anything to change that." I shrugged. "Can we just put on a movie?"
"What one?"
"The Little Mermaid?"
"Sure."
Mike put the DVD in and got some lollies, energy drinks for me and beer for him. The movie started and I got really excited. The Little Mermaid is the best Disney movie ever! I sung along to every single song.
"I think I might colour my hair red," I announced as Ariel went into Ursula's cave.
Mike looked at me. "You'd suit that."
I nodded and continued watching the movie.
By the time the movie had finished, I was falling asleep so Mike carried me up to my room and put me on my bed.
"Night, Cen," he whispered.
"Night, Daddy."
