Imani

Sleep came slowly last night. I continuously tossed and turned till my hearts content. I couldn't find a way to stay still, without having to turn uncomfortably. The only thing that stayed on my mind were his piercing blue eyes, that glowed with hunger and intensity.

I felt a burning sensation course through my veins, it was like something or someone had ignited an un extinguishing flame which continued to gnaw at my emotions.

Low cries of agony and whimpers had freely escaped my lips, along with incoherent murmurs until I felt a warm strong hand wrap around my cold body.

I instantly leaned into the heat source, wanting nothing more than to stay in the warm arms. I shivered when I felt one of the warm hands caress down my back before stopping just above my backside.

My hands reached out subconsciously and landed on top of a firm naked chest which radiated with warmth. I let out a sigh of content.

Just as I began to drift to sleep, I heard a deep voice growl,

"You're mine"

"How was your sleep Imani" Linda asked me.

I had to hold in a much needed yawn before I gave Linda a low answer." It was fine, thank you Linda"

I felt tiredness wash over my drained body, it was like something or someone had sucked the life out of me during my short slumber.

My heart ached with an indescribable pain, which soon spread to each corner of my body. I didn't understand why this was happening, was it something I ate.

Staring down at the plate of breakfast before me, I slowly reached down and took a fork in hand before digging in. I felt their eyes on me as I ate at a leisurely pace. I couldn't deny how amazing of a breakfast this was and I'd be a fool to turn it down.

"So...Imani how was your visit to Kieran's?" Linda asked curiously.

My head immediately snapped at the mention of Kieran's name.

"It was great, I guess. He wordlessly agreed to fix my car, and he uhm, he was very quiet and mysterious.." I said.

I found myself rambling on about how mysterious and intriguing he was, I couldn't seem to hold my tongue and it made Linda give Korina a knowing smile, one which I innocently ignored.

I couldn't help but feel a tingling sensation fill up in my stomach when I continued to talk about him. It was a foreign feeling.

"So are you going to see how much progress has gone into your car?" Korina asked.

"Oh yes of course, I'll go now actually" I rushed.

"I think Kieran will still be there dear, he's not rushing anywhere so take your time" Linda smiled.

I felt embarrassment wash over me.

"I'll visit him at a later stage, let me just help you guys around the house first before I go anywhere" I said.

"There's no need for that" Korina said once I got up to wash my plate.

"What do you mean, it was part of our deal. I'll help clean around the house and-" I said but Linda interrupted me.

"There's nothing to tidy up at the moment, so why don't you get ready and go visit Kieran" she said.

"Are you sure there's nothing I can do?" I queried.

"I'm positive, if there's anything that needs to be done, you'll be the first to hear about it" she smiled.

Making my way out of the kitchen I stopped in my tracks when I heard Linda call out my name. Turning to look at her with eyebrows raised in question, I waited patiently for her response.

"Imani, I know that you are a grown woman who is capable of taking care of herself, but here's a small warning. You are still unaccustomed to this towns settings, meaning that you have yet to know it's history. In short, it's best you don't stay out late and that you return before the sun sets. Last night you got lucky but this-" she said but immediately caught herself.

I gave her a confused look, waiting for her to continue.

"And I think it's time for your second dosage mom" Korina said nervously.

As Korina stood up to go around to her mother, Linda wheeled herself in the other direction towards you, dodging an approaching Korina by a second.

"They're watching you Imani, all of them"

Stepping outside of the B&B, I couldn't help but ponder on what Linda had said. I didn't understand what she meant by her words, and it made me curious. Who was watching me and why.

My mind wandered back to the two men who were sent by Mateo. They were still out here in the town somewhere. That could possibly be what Linda meant, but something deep inside of me thought otherwise.

There was something strange about this town and I wasn't willing to find out.

I found myself at the entrance of the forest leading to Kieran's mansion. I noticed faint tire tracks in the dirt, which resembled the tire tracks of my car. Moving into the forest, I followed the path but stopped when I noticed something strange move in the trees.

It was fast, with agile movements almost resembling the speed of a cheetah but twenty times quicker. I felt dizzy just trying to keep up with it, but it was far too fast.

I took slow steps to the side, trying my best not to make a sound but unfortunately I failed. The deafening sound of a tree branch crunching beneath my weight, made me freeze almost immediately. It also seemed to catch the attention of the strange thing.

I gulped down my fear, wracking my brain for a solution for the predicament I was in. Should I move or should I stay, either choice could be fatal.

A gasp escaped my parted lips when the strange thing slowly moved towards me. I could see its outline through the trees and as it approached me, it seemed much much larger then what I presumed it to be.

This animal towered almost 9 feet, which made me recoil in my standing position. I caught sight of its piercing blue eyes, reminding me of the deepest part of the ocean. Hunger twinkled in its eye, and I appeared to be a decent meal.

My heart beat hammered in my chest, I found myself completely paralysed to the spot. The shade of the trees masked its large figure perfectly, giving it the advantage in an attack. It's dark coat reminded me of a shiny dark obsidian that glistened underneath the dew of the morning.

"Miss. Kent" I flinched at the sound of the voice.

My head whipped around, facing a shirtless Kieran. I noticed how his tense stance screamed hostility but for some reason I knew it wasn't directed to me.

"Is there something wrong?" He asked.

I simply shook my head, casually looking back into the trees to see if the beast was still there.

"No, everything's just fine" I rushed.

As I followed Kieran towards his large clearing, I failed to notice the large dark beast recoil back into the forest from which it came. It's large jaws clenched down hard as its long wet tongue darted out, in an obvious sign of hunger.

It would wait until next time.
