Eunjae sees you as soon as you enter the coffee shop and you greet her with a smile. She's sitting at the back by a wall, not your usual place but you can guess she wants an element of privacy. The coffee shop isn't full by any means, and your favourite table is still free but it's right in the middle and quite close to the counter. Eunjae only sits where she is now when she wants to talk so you walk over to her her.
As predicted, you sit down and she clasps her hands in a way that says 'Tell-me-everything'. She looks at you eagerly, expecting you to speak.
"Coffee?" You ask.
After as much procrastinating as you can manage the two of you are sat back down on the table and you're faced with the task of explaining the events of two days ago. So, you tell Eunjae everything. She is your best friend after all and it's only fair that she knows. You only stop speaking when you reach the part where you first see Bangtan.
"Then what?" Eunjae pushes as you hesitate. You're torn between telling her, hoping she'll keep it a secret, or carrying on with the lie you told her yesterday.
"Eunjae, I lied to you yesterday." You say and she looks at you, blinking her eyes in confusion. You take a deep breath. "I did see Bangtan at the heist. In fact, they saved me. They also took me back to their... house." You finish, trying to find the right word to describe their base.
You watch Eunjae process the information before she grabs the table, leans forward and whisper/screams in your ear.
"What!?"
You push her back down by the shoulders. "I knocked myself out during the heist and they took me back to their place to make sure I was alright, or something."
"They couldn't have just handed you to the ambulance team which was waiting outside? Those guys are like what? 20? Alone in a house with seven boys, that just screams danger." She says, her mother-like trait showing through. You worry that you're best friend's admiration for the superheroes is fading so you try to reassure her.
"No, they were very professional and very gentlemen-like. Not once did they touch me, apart from when they helped me up. That was all."
Eunjae crosses her arms and sits back. "Alright, I believe you. I'm well aware that there are many men on this earth that don't have the mind of a rapist and I'm certainly very pleased that seven of them are superheroes who dedicate their lives to helping us." You nod in agreement but then Eunjae seems to do a mental 180 as she leans forward again. "But they're really hot right?"
The question causes your cheeks to flush and your hands fly to your face. "Eunjae!" You scold her, knowing that she is fully aware of the lack of activity in your love life.
"Well, are they?" She asks, grinning.
"Yeah... kinda." You say, rubbing your neck. She claps and sits upright.
"You never know Y/N. This could be your lucky chance to get a boyfriend. A 100 point bonus if they're a superhero. It'll be like Superman and Lois Lane. Except you are obviously way cooler than Lois." You had almost forgotten how well Eunjae likes to match make.
"Eunjae, I'm not really interested in that right now." You say, uncomfortable at even the idea of dating a member of Bangtan.
Eunjae shrugs. "More for me then." She says.
"They aren't grapes, you can't just 'have them'." You laugh at her and she joins you.
"I still don't get why they took you back to their place."
You aren't sure whether to mention the fact that your apartment might be being watched, only just remembering it yourself. You don't want to get her worried or give her reason to ask questions about why people are watching you.
"I think they just wanted to avoid the media. Taking me out of the bank to the ambulance would have drawn a crowd to them and I don't think they're big fans of reporters and the like."
Eunjae accepts this as a suitable reason and takes a drink from her coffee. You do the same, almost burning your tongue and causing Eunjae to laugh.
As you walk back to your apartment you realise how long it's been since you last talked and hung out with a friend. You're life isn't busy but you tend to spend a lot of time alone and it isn't too uncomfortable being by yourself. The events of the past few days have reminded you what being busy and sociable is like.
You don't have a job but you don't really need one. 16 year old you hadn't left your family home without taking quite a bit of the money that your parents had 'earned'. Looking back, you now know how wrong it is to use the money that brought so many people pain and suffering but you continue to use it and promise yourself that you'll find a job when the money starts to run out.
You reach your apartment door and put your key in, noticing how the lock seems to be looser and that you have to wriggle the key to get it to fit properly. You put it down to poor quality, much like the rest of your flat and you make your way inside.
It's dark like all the curtains are closed, something which you definitely did not do before you left. You walk cautiously into the kitchen but barely make it through the door before a hand clamps around your mouth and holds your hands behind your back. Your first instinct is to kick backwards at the groin of your attacker. It's well aimed and the person behind you stumbles back, very nearly losing their hold on you. Luckily for you, it's enough and you slip sideways and out of their grip.
You scold yourself for being caught so easily. This isn't the first time someone has tried to kidnap you, however the last time was at least two years ago; it's natural that you would be a little rusty. You face your attacker now and aren't too surprised to see them wearing a full face mask, only leaving holes for the eyes. They lunge at you and grab your wrists before you can move in the small space. You swing your hands down, freeing yourself from the hold, and push hard on their chest, forcing them backwards. They stumble into the living room and trip over the side of the coffee table. You put your hands into a defensive position as they stand up... and bring out a knife.
'Ah.'
They swipe and stab at you but your reflexes are quick and you manage to avoid them all. Knowing that you can't win this without a weapon, you slide into the kitchen and pull out a sharp knife of your own from the knife block. You engage in a sword fight of sorts. Exchanging attempts at slicing each other's opponent and dodging any that come at you. Being a skilled (and clearly better) fighter, you manage to strike your attacker a few times without being hit yourself. However, you only notice how small your kitchen is and how unsuited it is for a fight when you trip over the bin and swivel, giving your attacker a chance to lunge at you.
Your first reaction to the large gash along your shoulder is to cry out in pain before holding the open and bleeding wound with your other hand. Knowing that you can't win a fight in your condition nor in your location, you duck under your opponent's outstretched arm and leg it into the slightly larger (and closer to the front door) living room.
Your attacker has also taken injuries but they don't seem to be feeling them as much as you feel yours, so they follow you around the living room as you desperately try to create some distance between the both of you. The technique isn't very effective and they swipe at you again, narrowly missing your arm. You're exhausted and out of practise so it's all you can do to just sidestep and hope you can make it to the front door.
Suddenly, the attacker raises their knife behind their head, as if they're preparing for a larger strike. You have no idea what your brain is thinking or why it decides that your next action is appropriate but, without realising it, you open your mouth and yell.
"TAEHYUNG!"
