Chapter 28 - Testing the Theory

I first saw the bullet penetrating Anne Ruve's chest and watched her legs wobble like jelly. She was standing in front of Maya, her back to her, shielding her. Her arms were spread out the on sides of her body and her feet shoulder length apart, to provide more of a space to shield Maya. Then her legs gave up on her. She collapsed to the ground.

That was the first bullet. With lightning speed Madam Vortex stood a bit behind where Anne Ruve was collapsed on the floor, in a random position like paint being splat. Madam Vortex took the same position as Anne Ruve when she was shielding Maya and took the second bullet which went through her flesh, and stuck in there too. Causing her too, to fall to the ground. Standing there in shock Maya, very slowly knelled beside them. She shook their shoulders, slapped their faces, did anything that might make them wake up. I'm no medical expert but I'm close to certain that both shots might have hit a lung or a vital organ.

I started to make my way to Hawkmoth. He tried to shoot another bullet, this time at me. BANG!!! The bullet was close to hitting my chest right where my heart was, but I managed to deflect the attack with my yo-yo. I swung my yo-yo at his gun, the string wrapped around it. I tugged the yo-yo back, it pulled the gun with it so I managed to get the gun in my hand. I threw the gun to the ground and stomped on it and caused it to break. Hawkmoth kept staring at where Anne Ruve, Madam Vortex and Maya were. Overwhelmed by curiosity I also looked there.

Anne Ruve and Madam Vortex eyes fluttered open. They both took a hold of one of Maya's forearm each.
"Is our lady unharmed?" Anne Ruve asked.
"Is our lady unsafe?" Madam Vortex asked.
"Is the person who shot the gun still shooting?" Anne Ruve asked.
"Is the person who shot the gun still have the gun?" Madam Vortex asked. Then simultaneously they both asked.
"Are you alright our lady?"
"I-I'm fine, thank you for saving me." Maya said shakly.
"The copy of the spell." Anne Ruve said and, coughed blood.
"Is deep in the library shelves." Madam Vortex said and also coughed blood. Then they stopped talking. Then they stopped moving. Then they stopped breathing. The blood gushed out of their wounds like a flood. It just wouldn't stop.

Those two were like the same person. Even though one is a clone, they act different and were different people. What one does the other must do. If one dies, the other must die. Anne Ruve and Madam Vortex were acting like shields, making sure none of the bullets reached Maya. How loyal. Then Maya transformed into two blue figures. They both started to cry, they flung themselves to Lucy and hugged her, she hugged them back also crying. It was Gemini. Gemini transformed into Maya, so they didn't save Maya but a spirit. And they will never know that. I started to tear up even without meaning to. They were so loyal, even though it was a completely different person. I hated Hawkmoth that he did this. Not even the cruelest of people deserved to die. Not a single soul ever deserves to die! I pointed Hawkmoth out to Cat Noir and Volpina. They nodded and us three charged at him.

Volpina and Cat Noir managed to pin him to the ground while I used my yo-yo to tie up his hands behind his back.
"Why?" I asked him. "Why did you kill them? I already know that it's very unlikely the reason will be very good but let's hear it anyway." We all stared at him. Everyone else came behind us wanting to hear his response. He sighed and finally talked.
"I needed people from the other world still here. They make the akumas more powerful. So if I had them captured, the akumas power would increase and then I could get both your miraculous quicker." He answered. Natsu was about to shout but Cat Noir beated him to it. Cat Noir's right hand stuck onto Hawkmoth's collar and pulled him above the ground.
"You did all this just to get our miraculous quicker? What kind of freak are you?!"
"If I had yours and Ladybug's miraculous none of this would matter! Everything would be different!"
"Different how?!"
"That's all the information that I feel is appropriate to share. If you want to blame someone, blame yourselves." He pulling himself out of Cat Noir's grip and ran himself into a wall, knocking himself unconscious.

"I can't stand people like him." Natsu said.
"H-How could he ever do such a thing?!" Bella said her hands to her face crying. I noticed that the sack was off of the unidentifiable person's head and it was Maya. She was crying next to Anne Ruve and Madam Vortex's body.
"C'mon, we need to find that spell." Jackal said. I didn't even notice he was still here.
"How could you say such a thing right now?!" Bella screamed at him.
"I'm also what you humans call a murderer, so I don't really care. But looking for this spell would distract you guys from this, wouldn't it?"
"Your right Jackal." Lucy said. "For now we should just focus on getting home. Later you might be able to plan a funeral." Lucy said to Bella and she nodded.
"How did your spirit manage to be able to transform into Maya anyway?" Jackal asked.
"Well, I combined Gemini's strength with mine."
"Yeah, but surely that couldn't be it right?"
"Yes, your right. It was probably because of her virus. That made her weaker so that's probably how Gemini managed to transform to her."
"I see." In the corner of my eye I saw Natsu dragged the unconscious Hawkmoth after us.

- At the Library -

"I can't find it anywhere!!!" Natsu screamed, fire came out of his mouth.
"Don't worry Natsu, we'll find it soon." Lucy said.
"Yeah, it's got to be in here somewhere." Volpina added.
"Agreed." Bella nodded and looked at Maya. She walked up to her and asked. "Any idea where the spell might be?" Maya shook her hair and Bella sighed.
"Why did you bother asking her?" Cat Noir asked with a book in his hand.
"I can feel a change in her dead heart. She's no longer as she was before. She wants to help us now. But the virus is out of control so we can't let her help." Bella said.
"I see." Cat Noir said. He then looked at me. "Something wrong?"

"No I was just thinking."
"About?"
"Well, why did Madam Vortex's description of the spell's location as 'deep in the library shelves?' There's got to be a reason."
"Hmm. I wonder."
"What's your idea?"
"Well, I don't know much about magic. But what if what she said was literal. What if it was actually deep in the library shelves?"
"That's what I thought too. I mentioned it to Lucy before, she said she was going to find a spell about something like revealing another spell."
"I see. But if we might be wrong so we should continue looking. Even though I doubt that a thought that crossed both our minds could ever be wrong. It has to be right! It is destined to be, because why else would we think the same thing?"
"Actually, Lucy mentioned it to me and Bella too. So you mean us four."
"Uh, sure."

"I think I found it!" Lucy said and ran up to us.
"Really! Then open a portal!" Cat Noir said excited.
"Not that spell, a revealing spell! If the portal spell was really in a shelf then a revealing spell should show it."
"Great!"
"What do we need to do for the spell?" I asked.
"Well, it would be easier if the books were removed from the shelves. That way, if a spell is in the shelves we will be able to see it. I don't actually physically need anything"
"Then it's as good as done." I said with a grin.
"Awesome, I think we have the same idea about how to remove the books!" She said, also with a grin.
"Ok then let's start!" Cat Noir said.
"Huh?" Lucy and I both said.
"What do you mean 'Huh'?" Cat Noir asked.
"Who said we have to do it?" I asked. Didn't we say we knew how not that we were doing it.
"Um, you just did." He replied.
"No, no, no!" Lucy said. "Just watch. Hey Natsu, Happy! Come over here we got good news!" Instantly they threw away the books, relieved of not having to look at them anymore. They ran to us and eagerly stared at Lucy.

"Take your time, Lucy. Tell us what you want us to do." Natsu said.
"Make sure to add every single detail! Even the tiniest one!" Happy said. Wow, they really don't want to do book work.
"I just need you two to clear the shelves of books." Lucy said.
"What about the detail?!" Happy cried.
"Take longer to explain!" Natsu said also with tears.
"I can't! It's so simple! Let's just say, that I need the shelves empty, no need to read the books just empty all the shelves. Place the books on the table, floor or something like that. Ok?"
"We're on it Lucy!" Natsu said and with lightning speed dumped the books on the ground with Happy.
"Aye sir!" After a good 5 minutes nearly all the books were on the floor. Only two stands of shelves remained. Which is where Bella, Maya and Jackal were, still searching the books.
"That's enough! Good job you two!" Lucy said and patted their heads.
"Well, here goes nothing." Lucy said. "Hidden from the eye, hidden from plain sight. I command thee hidden to become part of our sight! Reveal!" There was a flash of gold light on the shelves behind us. We all walked towards it. A spell on the shelf appeared, it looked like it was scratched to the surface.
"It worked!" I said smiling like an idiot.
"What worked?" Maya asked.
"Yeah, why were you making all that noise?" Jackal also asked.

"We found it."
