Elliot's POV

Europa sighed next to me, readjusting her armor on her body. Her expression was stern, and her body appeared stiff. With a huff, she turned to one of the nearby werewolves, and they suddenly threw two strange objects at her. Did she just use mindlink? I wondered as I looked at the two of them. I still didn't understand how it worked, so I simply assumed that she could mindlink to other people personally, without other people hearing. That meant that mindlink could be very selective and private, either between a specific group of people, or everyone nearby.

I think.

Upon further investigation, I realized that the two objects thrown was a box of cigarettes, and a lighter. She stopped walking, and was about to light it, until she looked up at me.

"Oh."

She looked at me, then stuffed the cigarettes and the lighter in her armor. I looked away, focusing on the sword instead of the gaze of the powerful commander. "Almost forgot, you don't like the smoke huh?" I lowered my head even more, my hands now trembling. "Oi."

I suddenly felt her hand on my shoulder.

I yelped, stumbling backwards and unintentionally falling on my backside. "Hey, you okay?" I only heard her voice, but I didn't look at her. I still kept my gaze on the sword, which now shook violently because of my trembling hands. I suddenly heard her footsteps, then the clank of her armor as she came near to my form. "Elliot?"

I didn't look up.

I kept my gaze on the sword. Only the sword. A sudden feeling of fear overcame me, not because of the closeness of the Commander.

It was because I finally realized that I was all alone.

The fear completely crippled me, making me unable to even make a sound. My breathing deepened, and my trembling increased. Not even my wolf was present. . . as usual. There was no one that would help me if the Commander decided to do anything to me. What if she was angry right now? What would I do? There's no one to help me now, not Deimos, not Marley. . .

There's no one. No one can help me-

"You hear that?"

Her voice suddenly shattered the silence that drowned me. It also cleared the dark thoughts the clouded my mind. Without looking up, I tried to listen for whatever she was hearing, but all I heard was the sounds of the trees, the wind, and the wolves that were making their way to the large building ahead. "Everything's real quiet now. No more yelling and screaming. No one trying to hurt anyone. Just the sound of nature. Doesn't it calm you?"
