Recap

'Where did I fit in Elliot's fate? '

"She draws near Lucien Deimos. The one you once served."

I was assuming that my fate had somehow changed, connecting to the destiny of my mate. That was far from the truth.

Elliot's existence had merely solidified my destiny, and will now act as a guide to that inevitable conclusion.

Deimos' POV

It seemed like the conversations of Mother sparked a return of memories I thought were long gone. The moment my mind wondered, I would be dragged into my past, into moments I wished I forgot.

**
"An emotion of Odreus?"

The sudden change in conversation and the vagueness of the term were confusing at the time. Her gaze was ahead of us, and she gestured for me to come closer without looking at me. Once I stood near her sitting form, she continued.

"An emotion of Odreus, a fragment of Odreus. . . your Cursed Abilities. . . whatever you want to call it. It is the catalyst needed to cast true chaos into the world. Seeing how intertwined they are, Bringing more parts of Odreus into the world will hasten the resurrection of Adaris, since her resurrection must come first."

"Wasn't the extinction of intelligent life supposed to be the catalyst for her resurrection?" I interjected. "Hmm, it is. But it's taking too long for my taste. A miscalculation on my part."

"Miscalculation? You? I find that hard to believe."

She laughed; a nice hearty laugh. One that contrasted heavily with the cries and screams of werewolves in the territory below. The flames that engulfed the buildings caused the shadows to frolic and dance against the freshly fallen snow. Almost silent chaos; a mirror of my own mind.

"Your plans have changed quite a bit, Mother. In the last few decades, all you've seemed to talk about are the Gods."

Her eyes locked on my mine, assessing me slightly. "You've gotten older, Lucien. I hadn't noticed."

The flames brightened.

"I too, have grown. With that growth, my objectives have also changed, but my conclusion has remained the same."

She stood up and raised her arms to the sky. "I failed once before, but now I know what must be done I will change this broken, inefficient world, and shape it to perfection."

Her eyes no longer held that glow. They were now like the cold dark ocean, hiding many secrets within its depths. The flames seemed to cower before it, momentarily losing some of its light.

Then, like the slow growth of a flame, the glow returned. She closed the distance between us, before clasping my hands.

"That promise I made to you on that day. . .  I will accomplish it. We will live in a new world, a perfect world. No more pain. . . no more suffering. Only perfection."

She then pulled my hands up to her face and pressed them gently against her cheeks. Like storm winds whipping up the sea, there was a passion in her eyes, orbs that were looking further beyond than I was.

"Please trust in me for a little while longer."

". . .  Deimos?"

I was pulled out of my memories by a cool hand on my shoulder. Instead of stormy blue eyes, vibrant red eyes gazed at me. "You're spacing out again." There was a hint of worry in her voice. She had caught me in my thoughts a lot more often in the past few days.

"A-are you worried about the Pack?" she asked. I scoffed, folding my arms. "They're not my pack members. That mess is yours."

"They're still our- wait, don't call my pack a mess! We're coming along, getting by."

"With fewer members too, nonetheless."

She quickly spun around and smack my shoulder. "Why are you so mean? It's too soon to say things like that!"

"Why?"

"I'll cry."

Of course.
