A Dog's Purpose

Closer than friends,
Probably better than books,
Will protect you from backstabbers
And will fight all the crooks.
Will stand by you
Through thick and thin.
Secure your heart
So you aren't empty within.
Awaiting your return,
Just to reunite.
Guarding your chambers
Will keep up all night.
Loves you overlooking
All your flaws.
Warm feelings reside
In those little paws.
It's a dog's purpose,
Take it from me.
Betrayed often
But always happy.
Where loyalty flows
Through numerous veins,
Yet trapped and caught
In tremendous chains.
Will go to ends
For a tinge of smile.
Has zero expectations
Yet, is called vile.
