He had already been planning to go to Sunnydale to handle Damon and Stefan, so this granted him the perfect opportunity to spend a little more time with her.

As Nik opened the passenger car door, gesturing for her to get in the car, Buffy stared up at him with excited eyes "You hate when I eat in your car." She reminded him pointedly thinking back to the last time he had driven her.

He had thrown her chips out of the car window the second she opened them.

Klaus just grinned down at her playfully "You are a lady in distress, I am a gentleman."

Buffy snorted before climbing into the passenger seat "Yeah right, but seriously thanks. I hate that bus."

As he climbed into the driver's seat and put the car into the drive, he smiled over at her "I am determined to prove you wrong."

As he pulled onto the highway toward Sunnydale, Klaus allowed his eyes to drift over to Buffy who was gazing out of the window. She was surprisingly quiet today and it was slightly disconcerting for him.

"Do you need me to drop you off at The Magic Box?"

Buffy shook her head "The hospital. My cousin works there as a candy stripper. We are doing lunch before I go full research mode with the gang."

Her answer caused Klaus to freeze, his hands momentarily tightening around the steering wheel. He hadn't realized that Jeremy Gilbert was in Sunnydale as well "Your cousin?"

Buffy's eyes widened as she clicked how little she had actually told Nik about the past couple of months. Given they normally stuck to Art in their conversation she hadn't even thought to bring up her whole family drama "Oh right, completely spaced a couple of months ago. I have two cousins. Anyway, Jeremy and Elena showed up on my doorstep out of the blue with a bunch of their friends. Way weird."

The mention of a certain doppelgänger caused Klaus to grit his teeth "Yes...intriguing." He added, plastering a fake smile on his face as he turned his attention back to the road.

Elena Gilbert was supposed to be dead.

Yet apparently, she was alive and breathing.

SUNNYDALE, CALIFORNIA

Sitting in the hospital cafeteria for their lunch date, Buffy couldn't help but stare at Elena in astonishment.

Elena had been filling her in on what happened in Mystic Falls after she went missing, but there was one bit of information that just threw her for a loop.
