Sang helps the strings find each other, enduring the pain from her mother the entire time. She doesn't mind, she deserves the pain, simply because not every string works out. Some strings create beautiful families, filled with love and happiness.
Some strings cause pain, in death or abuse. Some strings bring woman to men that truly love each other, but the strings won't change their personalities.
That's what happened to Sang's father and mother, stepmother, as she was told often enough. Her father cheated on his string, effectively breaking it and fraying the string.
Not that her stepmother knows.
As the only person that is able to see the strings, Sang has given up hope on her own string. She can feel it, feel it being tugged and feel it wrapped around her finger, but never quite see it. It isn't until her parents force her to Charleston, South Carolina, where she sees nine men with nine strings, all tied and jumbled together...
All leading straight to her.
