| ~ Danielle's P.O.V. ~ |
I stood there silently as my father went over future plans with an ally nation. Despite being an important factor in this decision, this wasn't my place to speak. The same applied to my mother, sister, and brother.
My brother stood beside me on my left, my sister on my right. My mother, however, sat beside my father, only speaking when spoken to.
Everything was calm, organized, planned...
Until it wasn't.
The multiple of us all turned our heads towards the mahogany double doors.
Screaming.
We could all hear it.
There was the yell of guards, the sound of struggle accompanying it.
I could feel my little sister hug my side, my brother positioning himself to be slightly in front of her and I.
What the hell was going on?
The noise continued to grow closer as our worry grew higher.
What were behind those doors?
Right as my thoughts began to drift from the question, it was answered in a multitude of guards.
The doors slammed open, one hitting the wall, as roughly 25 guards piled into the wide room. In the middle was a man I had never seen before. His eyes were dark, yet wild and bright with fiery passion. He wasn't right, and I felt pity.
Who was he?
Why was he here?
My gaze turned to my father, as his hardened with glowering hate targeted at the man.
He knew him.
The guards leaped at the man, his head adorned with black semi-long hair hitting the floor. I couldn't help but wince at the sight. It only took a few moments for the man to be pushed into submission, sitting on his knees.
My father stood up right as I opened my mouth, unknowingly silencing me.
"You." My father's voice was deadly, dripping with an unknown abhoration.
"How did you get here?" The man's eyes were as deadly as my father's voice, yet in a different way. He was wild, uncontrolled mentally and emotionally.
Without responding, the man simply tugged at his arms, snarling and growling like a sadistic animal.
In response, my father raised his hand, preparing to backhand slap the poor male.
"Wait."
I didn't even know I spoke until the word left my lips.
I felt a want, a desire, to help this man. He wasn't right, and that was either my father's fault, or neither.
I wasn't going to let him get punished for something that wasn't his fault.
"Look at him, father. Hasn't he already paid with his sanity?" I walked out from behind my brother, gently nudging my sister off of me for safety. I didn't know what would become of me for this.
"You don't even know what he did, Danielle." My father's gaze was trained on me, his expression softening despite his tone.
"And what is that?" My gaze held a sorrowful look, which seemingly melted my father's cold gaze, if at least only for a moment.
"He was sent to kill you. He's a damned assassin, sweetheart."
I froze, my gaze turning to the man. A series of emotions flew through me, and yet, I still felt the same.
"And did he succeed? No. I'm still here. But look at him. Don't you think he's paid enough? He's lost his sanity, a man's source of honor."
I meant what I said, I felt nothing but sympathy and pity. His eyes held something I couldn't quite describe exactly, it was like he came from the wild, born and raised. His hands visibly and formed fists before releasing. His lips mumbled little nothings in a language I couldn't detect, which was odd in itself.
The room fell silent, the only thing audible being the breaths of each individual.
I walked forward to be in front of the man.
"Release him."
"But your majesty-"
"Do as I say."
I glared at the guard, though it softened. He was only worried.
I crouched down in front of the man as he was released, a look of confusion flashing over his expression.
He wasn't entirely lost.
And I wanted to help.
"Hello there." I gave a soft smile, my hand slowly reaching out as to not frighten him.
It didn't work, as he began to move away from my touch.
But he didn't move away completely.
He didn't run.
I took that as a sign to continue forward, my hand eventually meeting his arm.
"Don't be afraid, dear." The nickname slipped past my lips, my eyes conveying a form of comfort for him only to see.
The man's body convulsed under my touch in fear.
"No more."
My eyes widened, having not expected him to speak.
"...What?"
"No more." He repeated, his eyes twitching and widening as his gaze met mine.
There's no way to quite describe this, but time almost seemed to stop. It was as if two different worlds collided with a simple flicker of a gaze. Our two worlds.
Our little world.
A clash of a soft, calm personality mixed with one of fear-driven intent.
It was beautiful and breath-taking, and yet horrifying at the same time.
Neither worlds had seen the other.
Until then.
There's no way to describe it.
Not at all.
But it was in that moment, I knew.
This was another chapter, a new one.
With him.
With us.
And I was ready for it.
I wanted-
My train of thought was broken as we heard cries and screams coming from the window.
If only I knew what would happen that day.
Ahead of time.
But I didn't.
And so,
The descent began.
