My gloomy eyes, outlined by the visible bags under them, glance around at the familiar village briefly.
Well, what's left of it.
The once bustling dirt road, full of people, empty and depressing. The vibrant blue glow that used to emit from the hung-up lanterns are now a faint glow. The trees...Oh, the trees...The ones that held the huts, the huts that used to house hundreds of other Elves are...nothing but an abandoned memory.
I can still picture it all...The people...The huts...The calming blue glow...All so beautiful, yet...So lost...
A small smile makes it's way onto my face as my eyes deceive me. They trick me into thinking that they were there once again.
As my clothed feet walk down the dirt path, I glance to the left and see a somewhat ghostly figure that looked like Elaine, the baker. Alas, this wasn't a ghost, just simply my eyes...Deceiving me...
"Hello Elaine! How's the bread baking?" I call out, as if she's truly there.
"Oh, hello dearie! It's doing fine, thank you! I'll make sure to bring a few loafs to the castle later on today!" It was faint, but I could still imagine it.
"Thank you, Elaine! But, there's no need, really! That's very kind of you to offer, though!" My voice begins to get drowned out as I imagine the other voices dancing through the air. Hundreds of Elves, humans, and other races I can't name walk down the dirt path as well. The buildings along it no longer decaying as my imagination guides me.
"I know right! I heard that- Oh wait! That's her!" I hear a voice call out as two young girls run up to me, most likely 9 and 6 for their ages. They appear to be sisters.
"H-Hello! Are you one of th-the royals?" The older girl speaks up nervously as the younger girl hides behind her. I can't help but chuckle lightly, putting on a soft smile as I nodded my head.
"Mhm, no need to be formal. Just call me Danielle." The two girls smile back at me as the younger one begins to come out from behind the older one.
"See, Milly? I told you that she was the the king and queen's daughter! She's going to be queen in a few years as well, isn't that right pr- I mean Danielle?" The older one says excitedly. I giggle as I nodded once again.
"That I am," I suddenly lean down as I whisper playfully for only them to hear, "unless I run away before they can make me do it." They giggle as they hear the playfulness in my tone, whispering back to me.
"Alright, we won't tell!" I just chuckle lightly as I lean back up, an older voice suddenly calling out.
"Milly! Janice! Time to go!" Judging by the voice, it's most likely their father.
The girls pout as they wave, both girls beginning to walk off as the older one shouts out.
"Bye, Danielle! I'll talk to you again soon!"
I just giggle as I wave. My eyes glance around once more at the vibrant blue lanterns, the huts, the trees, and the people. Once again, I hear another voice break me from my gaze.
"Ah, Danielle. There you are! I've been looking all over for you!"
I turn around to see none other than my father. His white hair professionally, yet playfully, sitting upon his head; a few strands sticking out from under his crown. He's wearing something similar to a royal robe. However, instead of red, he's wearing more of a green color. The familiar ring also snug upon one of his fingers.
My smile widens as I walk up to him, the smile on his face remaining at its usual gentle way.
"Hello father! Isn't it a lovely day? Pardon me for my sudden departure, but I simply couldn't miss out on such a glorious morning." He just chuckles as he waves his hand dismissively.
