CHAPTER NINE (PART ONE)

"Clara, nag-enjoy ka ba ngayong gabi?" tanong sakin ni Daddy mula sa harapan ng kotse. Siya kasi ang nag-drive sa amin pauwi ngayong gabi kasi may sakit ang driver namin. Nasa passenger seat naman nakaupo si Mommy habang mag-isa naman akong nakaupo sa likod ng kotse.

"Opo. Nag-enjoy po ako ng sobra. The party was a lot of fun and the food was really delicious." Sagot ko.

"That's good, dear." pagsali ni Mommy sa usapan. "Nagustuhan din ng mga bata ang pagkain! We should hire the same restaurant to cater sa susunod nating anniversary, Hon."

Ngumiti si Daddy sa direksyon ni Mommy. "Sure, dear. Ikaw ang bahala."

It was really nice of my parent to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary in an orphanage that our family sponsors. Yung mga anniversary kasi nila noong mga nakaraang taon ay sa bahay lang namin sine-celebrate. It's usually an intimate dinner between the three of us. Magluluto si Mommy ng mga masasarap na mga putahe na natutunan niya over the years habang kami naman ni Daddy ang bahala mag-ayos ng table setting at magpaganda ng ambiance.

Pero gusto ni Mommy na maiba naman daw ngayong taon. "I want to do something special", sabi niya pa. "And I don't want it to be special just for the three of us."

And it was indeed special spending the whole day with children in the orphanage.

"Oh, Honey. Thank you for the most wonderful anniversary!"

"No, dear - thank you." Inabot ng kanang kamay ni Daddy ang magkasaklop na mga kamay ni Mommy habang nanatiling nagda-drive ang kaniyang kaliwang kamay. "For giving me thirty-five wonderful years and the years before that. Thank you for loving me, taking care of me, being patient with me, for giving me a good and obedient daughter - a family of my own. Thank you for everything, Clarisa. I love you-"

Sobrang bilis ng mga pangyayari.

A loud horn blasted. It sounded like it came from a big truck. May nakakasilaw na liwanag na nagmumula sa kaliwang bahagi sa labas ng kotse. There was also a loud screech before something hit the side of our car and we toppled over.

"NO!" napabalikwas ako ng bangon sa kama. Basang basa ako ng pawis at medyo hinhabol ko ang aking paghinga.

Napanaginipan ko na naman ang nangyari noong gabing iyon.

The crash that led to my parents' death and three-week long coma.

We were driving home from the anniversary party that night where my parents decided to celebrate in an orphanage. I remember my parents speaking so lovingly to each other and me melting on the inside in the back of the car.

I remember my father's heart-warming speech to my mom that he didn't get to finish because we were hit by the truck.

It was horrible.

Lagi kong napapanaginipan ang mga huling sandal na nakasama ko ang aking mga magulang simula ng magising ako sa ospital mula sa pagkaka-coma. Tumigil lang iyon noong nagkasakit ako. Those where the time that I didn't dream at all.

James has taken really good care of me that time. Inalagaan niya ako ng mabuti at tinatabihan niya ako hanggang sa ako ay makatulog. He never left my side and he became my rock when I was weak and vulnerable. He was always taking care of me and making me feel safe.

Maybe that's what made my nightmares disappeared.

Hey, aliens! Very short chapter here. I'm really sorry. I intended to update last Wednesday but my school works been piling up since the start of the year and they continue to do so. I'll try to upload the part two of Chapter Nine before Wednesday. ^^
