CHAPTER 17

*Thirteen Years Earlier*

“I’m bored Ave!” Michael whined at me.

We were on a school field trip at a boring museum, so I could totally understand his boredom.

“Let’s play ‘The People Game’ then.” I replied.

Michael and I had created ‘The People Game’years ago out of boredom. It was quite useful in situations like the one we were currently in. The whole idea of the game was to create stories out of the people around us.

“Okay!” He smiled a little, “you go first.”

I nodded and looked around trying to find someone who I could make an interesting story out of. I spotted a blind man in one of the tour groups who had a guide dog with him. So I decided to use him as a story. I nudged Michael, and quietly pointed the man out, indicating he was now the character of my story.

“See that man over there Mikey?” He nodded back to me with a grin on his face. I continued, “His name is Rupert Edward Fitzpatrick. He isn’t really blind you know. It’s all just a show. He is actually a superhero! But he has to hide his powers so that nobody will find out.”

Michael looked at him in awe, momentarily forgetting that I was only telling him a story. “What kind of superpowers does he have?” He asked.

“What kind? He has all sorts of powers! He can fly, be invisible, use force fields! Everything! But you know what his greatest power is?” I asked lowering my voice in order to raise the tension.

“What?” Michael asked also lowering his voice.

“He has the ability to use his laser vision on boring, old museum workers when they talk too much. Hits them right in the butt with it to make them shut up for two seconds.” I said with a wink at Michael as he began to laugh.

Our teacher turned around and glared at us as we tried smothering our giggles with our hands.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You know those mornings when you wake up early, and you’ve made what feels like a very important decision in life? That was the kind of morning I was having. After seeing the reunion between Ashton and Amara the day before, I had come to the conclusion that I needed to find Jo. This was probably slightly dangerous considering the reaction I received from Mara. Mara was always the calm friend. She was kind to everyone, and was almost always the mediator of the group. Yesterday, she nearly tore me apart…
Now I had the brilliant idea to go find Jo. Jo was the complete opposite of Amara. If you got in the way of her she would rip you to pieces without any regrets. So, in other words, she was a lot like me. Except much stronger, and could beat the crap out of me if she really wanted to. I had obviously crossed a line with her, and now I expected to live after reuniting with her. Brilliant plan, right?
Brilliant or not, I had to do it. If Luke could be brave enough to bring Mara back, then the least I could do was return the favor to him. Even if I did die in the process.
So now, I was on my way to a bus stop. I was planning on taking a bus to get to her. I had gotten all the details from Calum about how I could find her. Good ol’ Cal. Our very own personal stalker.
He estimated that it with all the stops the bus would need to make, plus with switching buses halfway through that it would take me approximately a day to get to the city she was currently living in. So, I had a backpack with a change of clothes, and some money with me. This was going to be a fantastic day and a half. Stuck on a stinky bus…surrounded by stinky people…so much fun. I was psyched. Obviously.
