Tossing the phone on the bed in front of him, he shook his head. Nathan had already rang Tahira a couple of times—and she didn't pick up. He waited for Tahira's name to pop up on his screen and it eventually did, but only after an hour.

"Where the hell were you?'

"You know that I'm a doctor, right?" Tahira sounded wary over the phone, her voice so hoarse and stuffed. "I have three shifts today—I won't be home till tomorrow."

"Oh,"

"Why?" Tahira asked. "Is everything okay? Is Maya okay?"

"You see, that's the problem." Nathan continued.

"What? What happened to her?"

"Nothing is wrong with her," Nathan simply said. "But I know there's something wrong between us." He took a deep breath, hoping that Tahira would at least say something to him instead of acting confused.

But there was only silence. There was no response from Tahira. "Tahira?"

"Uh—I—yeah?" Tahira cleared her throat. "What about us?"

"We need to talk!"
