Cut

Yesterday,
I read 'cut' by Sylvia Plath

And today,

I cut my finger while chopping beans for my mother who had cut her finger chopping the same

Like an inception, of cuts,
Starring Beanardo di Caprio

And she wrote
'What a thrill'
in response,

And I agree, sort of-
Pain is quite thrilling until you start feeling it

And I wonder, alongside searching for band-aid,

If I would have cut my finger today?
If I hadn't read the poem yesterday
Or if I had cut my finger yesterday
Would I have read the poem today?

If I had been a little more careful
Would that have created a parallel universe where I didn't get a cut
Or wrote a poem out of the thrill

I put on the band-aid,
Despite the fact that it hurts a lot
When removing.
