He watches his breath
It floats along the crisp morning air
Snow plastered on the ground
Like icing on a cupcake
He's been tense lately
He can't relax
And anything that pushes him
Makes him irritable
His toes freeze in converse shoes
As he waits for the bus for school
He feels disconnected again
Like he's a ghost gliding on ice
No sound
No movement
Just carefully floating around
Cautious not to make a sound
He can't be seen nor heard
They can't know that he's there
For if those blank eyes stare right through him
He'll disappear into anxieties embrace
Face heating up
Heart racing
Mind going faster than light
Unable to process
Unable to function

Defences are up now
Telling him to just keep his head down
Stop being stupid
Don't you dare say a word
Keep those eyes to the ground
Blank that face out
They can't know what you're thinking
And he listens
Staying inside of his demons hold
Closing his eyes
Accepting what he's been told
Because they've always protected him
Kept him from those wandering
Blank eyes

He breathes in winter air
Prepares himself before stepping through
Corrupted school doors
Blank eyes are everywhere
He must become a ghost now
Until the sun falls away
And night greets the rooftops
Then tomorrow
He'll do it all over again
