Two years ago...

"Nicole..." Peter smoothed her cheek with his thumb. "Don't be afraid, just go in there and give 'em hell."

"C'mon Nicole!" Michael  smirked, his eyes glinting daringly. "What's the worst that's going to happen?"

"I suppose." Nicole shuttered as she stared down onto the rickety docks, it was practically teeming with pirates. "But what if they catch me?"

"We can both get you out." Peter grinned. "We'll be right here if you need us."

"...Alright." Nicole jumped from out of the tree and down into the heart of the pirate common area. Within an instant there were gunshots and swords drawn, all directed at her. With a quick turn she began firing the paint pistol within her hand. The gunshots from the pirates had missed her narrowly, but that hadn't slowed her down in the least. As the paint pellets his the pirates however, they burst into a cloud of rosy color ranging from bright reds to brilliant purples. They yelled and screamed at her, but once she had her fill of the chaos, she sprinkled the vial of pixie dust over her head and flew back into the great tree a short distance away only to meet her brother and Peter grinning from ear to ear.

"That was...so fun!" She laughed as she flew back onto the branch where Peter and Michael had been watching. "The pixie dust made it so much better!"

"Hand it over, I'll show you how a real man does it." Michael snatched the pistol from Nicole's hands and began to jump from roof to roof just as she had.

Nicole looked down at her brother having the time of his life then back to Peter who had a wide grin on his face.

"Thank you."

Nicole POV:

My heart...it was back. It hurt like hell, but I felt it now within my chest. I remembered everything in a full bloom of color and emotion. I even could recall when Peter, Michael, and I had blasted those pirates with orbs of paint in vivid detail. It was almost painful to remember now, considering the circumstances, but I couldn't help but laugh audibly when reliving it.

I rose to my feet slowly, the grass swishing around my leather boots as I stood. The moon glared down on me from behind the rock like a spotlight, as if someone was watching. Peter was still on that ship somewhere, being drained of his blood while soldiers were likely searching every corner of the island for me. I now understood why they raided the camp, why they wouldn't touch me when Peter was nearby. It was because of him. They wanted both of us: Peter for his blood, and me for...well, I don't know what exactly, but I'm sure I'd find out soon enough. Just thinking of their "experiment" sent a shiver down my spine.

"Psst." A whisper came from behind a tree across the meadow.

"Hello?" I whispered back.

I saw a hand emerge from behind a tree that beckoned me to come closer, but I didn't know how quickly I could trust this figure.

"I have a knife." I said aloud. "I'm not afraid to use it." I walked into the woods and a hand was immediately clasped over my mouth. I tried to scream, but the hand was held tightly over my lips.

"Shh! They might hear you." The voice sounded familiar, it was Tiger Lily. I turned and saw her brown eyes gleam in the dim light that shone through the woods.

"Come with me, and don't say another word." She removed her hand from my mouth and I followed her hesitantly into the jungle. She took an odd path of walking, as if she knew we were being followed. "In here." She pointed to a large tree trunk. Tiger Lily brushed away leaves at the bottom of the roots which revealed a trapdoor. "Quickly."
