The Real Savior (Newt X Reader)

Chapter 21

"What're you guys talking about?" Harriet asked as she and Sonya walked towards them.

(Y/N) tensed up when she saw Sonya, especially with the way she's looking at Newt. (Y/N) didn't miss when Sonya would take secret glances at Newt. She hated it but she can't do anything about it.

"Oh great," Minho murmured. "The two queens of glorious Group B."

Harriet acted like she didn't just hear what Minho said. "I'm assuming you all saw those pods back in your WICKED chamber, too." Everyone nodded but not (Y/N). "They had to be where the Grievers charged up or whatever they did."

"Yeah," Newt agreed. "Gotta be that."

Thunder crackled and boomed making everyone look up at the sky. The wind tore at everyone's clothes and hair making (Y/N) hold on to Newt, feeling as if she'll be blown away. Newt slipped his hand away from (Y/N) and pulled her to his chest as if to protect her.

Minho, Thomas, and the three girls saw and they all had different reactions. Minho smirked a little but he still couldn't face (Y/N). Thomas had a small smile on his face when he saw the sight in front of him and so did Teresa. Harriet looked like she didn't really care while Sonya had this cold look on her face.

"We've only got twenty-five minutes," Thomas told them. "We're either gonna be fighting Grievers or we need to get inside those big coffins at the right time. Maybe they're the-"

Thomas stopped when they all heard a sharp hiss come from all directions. There was small movement around, but it was enough it set everyone on edge. (Y/N)'s head and heart were racing. Everyone was already thinking of the fact that there are Grievers inside. (Y/N) knew that she's only survived in the Scorch because of her monster side. But ever since she thought she killed Thomas, she was scared to let it control her once again.

Everyone watched as the pods opened up. They tried to hear what could come out of the pods, but couldn't because of the wind and the rumbling thunder. They were already gathered in the middle, but they still moved closer to each other. Anything just to get farther away from the pods.

"Thomas!" Minho called out.

"What?" Thomas yelled back.

"You, me, and Newt! Let's go check it out!"

Newt was about to let go of (Y/N) but something slipped out of the pods making everyone gasp. (Y/N) saw that a metallic arm hung over the edge of the pod. It just stayed still for a few seconds until it started to slowly move out of the pod. This would've been the perfect time to try to fight it. But everyone was frozen, trying to make out what was coming out. Despite the strong wind, (Y/N) noticed that the creatures had a lightbulb glued to its arm.

"What is that thing?" Minho yelled as the creature tried to emerge.

No one answered. Everyone saw that in all of the pods, the same type of creature was coming out of the pods at the same pace. (Y/N)'s eyes were at the one closest to her. Newt pulled her tighter into his arms, she could feel his heart beating fast in his chest.

When the creatures got out of their pods, they stood there for a while. (Y/N) could feel they were dangerous but the way they walked seemed harmless. They even wobbled like a baby trying to learn how to walk. (Y/N) couldn't get her eyes away from them. She saw that the creatures had lightbulbs everywhere. There were lightbulbs on their chests, back, elbow, and knees.

Contrasting their slow movement earlier, the creatures raised their arms in one swift motion and blades came out of their bodies. A deathly and creepy moan came out of them, sending shivers in (Y/N)'s spine. She was certain she'd have nightmares about this along with the others, if she ever lives through this.

Minho turned and faced everyone who was still staring at the creatures. "There's about one for each of us! Grab whatever you have for a weapon!"

Hearing this, the Gladers and the Sticks came into action. But it wasn't just them. (Y/N) could see that just like everyone, the creatures were getting ready to attack.
