Thomas and Teresa didn't know what to say to their best friend. (Y/N) was their light. The one who always had something encouraging to say. It's horrible and heartbreaking for them to see her so hopeless. So lifeless. The room was now so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.

"Did you hear that?" Thomas asked.

"Hear what?" Teresa asked.

(Y/N) didn't bother to know what it was and just stared at the ceiling. Thomas scrambled from his seat and opened the door of (Y/N)'s room. A boy then fell inside and Thomas and Teresa gave each other confused looks.

"Newt?" Thomas asked in disbelief.

"What are you doing here?" Teresa asked as she helped him up.

"I'm sorry," he said. "I was looking for Sonya."

"Wrong room," Thomas said. "Her room is two doors to the left," he told him.

"Thanks," Newt said. He was about to leave but then he saw (Y/N) on her bed, not giving him even a second glance. "Is that (Y/N)?"

"Yeah," Thomas said sadly.

"What happened to her?"

"It's not our place to tell. Now go to Sonya," Thomas said.

Newt did as he said and left the room. In a matter of minutes both Teresa and Thomas left too.

-

The following day, (Y/N) was still in her room, depressed as ever. She knew that Newt came into her room yesterday but she was too depressed to even care. She just wanted everything to go away. She knew that she'll be used against her will just because of her blood.

(Y/N) heard a knock on her door.

"Come in," she said, expecting for it to be either Thomas or Teresa or both.

The door opened and came in someone that she didn't really expect. It was Newt. (Y/N)'s eyes widened and she propped herself up using her elbows.

"If you forgot what Thomas said yesterday, Sonya's room is two doors more to the left," she informed him.

"I know that," he said. He took a seat right next to (Y/N).

"What are you doing? Why are you even here?" She asked him.

Newt just shrugged and looked at her. "I just remember when I first saw you in school." (Y/N) felt something twist in her stomach when he said that. "You were always so happy, so alive. It's so different seeing you like this."

"Like what?"

"You lost your light (Y/N)."

"How'd you even notice me?" She asked him.

"How can I not? Everyday you always wore that beautiful smile on your face."

"Beautiful," (Y/N) scoffed. "I have no reason to wear a smile now. Why didn't you talk to me until now?"

"I was scared I guess," Newt told her. "I felt a little intimidated by you (Y/N)."

"You have no reason to be," she told him.

After that day, Newt would always visit her just to talk to her. (Y/N) enjoyed those talks that she had with Newt. It was like they became instant best friends.

After a few weeks, the head aches stopped and (Y/N) was slowly going back to being her same happy self. Of course, she would hate every time someone would take her blood. Newt never knew that she was the Cure since she somehow thinks that if he knows, he'll treat her differently.

One day, (Y/N) was called into her mother's office. She didn't want to go back but she knew that she had to. As she stepped inside, she saw Thomas, Teresa, Aris and Rachel inside. Also her mother of course.

"Ah, (Y/N). So glad you could join us," her mother said.

(Y/N) just walked past her while giving her a glare as she sat beside Thomas.

"Good," Ava seemed a little flustered with what happened.

"We're here for one important thing," she switched to business mode. "The chips that we placed inside you has one special little tweak. With these chips, you can talk to each other telepathically. You each have your partners to train with. Except for you (Y/N)," she looked at her daughter. "Your chip is different but it's up to you to find out. But you can still practice with your friends. That's all."
