I jolt awake when I hear someone screaming. A sound of glass shattering filled my ears as I whimpered away from the door, rubbing my eyes and yawning. Feeling myself get nervous as seconds passed by. I hear loud footsteps as I hid under the covers, trying to shield myself away from loud noise.

"You're worthless!" He shouted. I gasped, my little hands slapping against my mouth.

Why is mummy and daddy always fighting?

I heard a slapping sound followed by a womanly scream. At this point, tears are streaming down my eyes. I am frightened. I hear the footsteps coming closer as I whimper under the covers.

"Don't!" Mum screamed, I can picture her crying. I just wanted to wipe her tears away.

The door burst open, revealing my mum and dad who both have bloodshot eyes, probably from crying too much. I can see them under the covers. I am scared, my legs are shaking and I can feel my sweat dripping in my forehead.

I can see my father's silhouette approaching me. He pulled off the covers gently as he hugged me closer to him.

"Don't cry, baby." He wiped off my tears.

"What's happening, daddy?" I whispered, nuzzling my face into the crook of his neck.

"We're going on a vacation." He smiled through his tears.

"Please, don't take her away from me." My mum pleaded on the side, reaching out for me as daddy stood up. Carrying me in his arms and shielding me away from her.

"You brought this upon yourself." Dad commented, picking up my teddy bear which was sat on the nightstand.

"I never meant to-"

"We're leaving." he stated firmly, walking off on my room as we passed the hallway. Mum following behind us, still crying.

"Marissa." Mum cried out, reaching for my hands. I reached out to her as I cried, confused as to why my father doesn't want my mum near me.

"Marissa, darling. Come to me." Mum said.

"Back off." He growled, grabbing the bags near the kitchen counter. The plates we're smashed against the floor and mum's favorite vase is ruined.

Mum grab a hold of the bags, trying to stop my dad from walking any further. But he had a tight grip on it as he yanked the bag away from my mother's grip.

"Let go!" He demanded, pulling the bag towards him as I clung into his body. He opened the door and my mother nearly tripped against the staircase.

Dad opened the car door and put me in the backseat, my mum trying to get me but dad is blocking her. He put on my seat belt as I cried on my seat, hugging my teddy bear closer to me. Dad slammed the door shut making me flinch as I cried even harder.

He got inside the car afterwards as he locked the door quickly, leaving my mum outside as she tapped the car window beside me.

"I love you." She mouthed as I reached out to her, but the car sped off. Not giving me a chance to say that I love her too.

I looked at my dad, wiping away my tears.

"Dad? Why did we left mum?" I asked.

He took in a deep sigh, running a hand through his hair in frustration.

"Baby, sometimes, in order to be appreciated is to show them that you are worthy of something."

"What does that mean?" My voice breaks as I ask.

"You'll understand if you grow older."

"Where are we going?"

"I don't know, baby. I don't know.."

-

"Darling, wake up." A voice shook me from my sleep. I groaned, pushing my father's hand away. He chuckled and dug his fingers in my side.

"No, daddy." I mumbled, nuzzling my face further into the sheets.

"Let's get breakfast. Aren't you hungry?"

"No.." I trailed, feeling my stomach grumble.

"Your stomach says otherwise." he teased, pulling my feet as I stood up.

I noticed that we weren't in our house. I looked around to see the unfamiliar place we were in. White sheets, small bed and even a small television upfront.

"Daddy, where are we?" I asked curiously. My dad tied my hair up into a pony tail.

"We're staying at a hotel. We will stay here for a while before I find a place."

I nodded my head. I'm going to miss our old house though. I have my tree house built up there.

"Can we build a tree house outside?" I asked excitedly.

Dad laughed, "Absolutely not."

We headed downstairs, using the lift machine. I really hate riding one of those because I've seen a movie where a girl gets trapped and gets smashed into pieces.

I miss my mum. She used to make me breakfast and her pancakes were colorful and had lots of shapes.

As we we're walking down the sidewalk of the street with my dad holding my hand. I am entertained by the lines along the pavement, challenging myself to not step on the lines. I felt my dad paused, stopping as I turned to look up at him.

"Dad?" He had his eyes wide. Staring straight as I look up to see where he was staring at.

I saw my mum, buying fruits as she handed the lady her payment. My eyes formed into a smile, letting go of my father's hand as I run towards my mother.

"Mum!" I shouted, reaching out to hug her legs. The way I used to do.

She gasped as she turned towards me, her eyes widening.

"Rissa? What are you doing here?" She asked me, rather panicked.

"Marissa! Didn't I told you to not ran off the streets like that?" My father scolded, rushing to my side to pick me up.

"But its mummy." I whined.

"I'm sorry, but I have to go." Mum said.

"Mum, don't leave me." I begged, my eyes glistening with tears.

"He's here," she said to my father. "I can't let him see you."

Before she can leave, a man walks up behind her and kisses her cheek.

"Who are you talking to babe?" the man asked. My mum's panicked eyes met mine as she turned to look at the man behind her.

I don't recognize him. He doesn't look like my uncle or anyone for that matter.

"She just thought that I was her mum."

What? But she is my mum!

"We have to go though, nice meeting you." She smiled lightly at me and my dad. Rushing off to leave.
