What is Coming Out of the Broom Closet? Coming out of the broom closet is a term used by wiccan's/ witches when describing themselves revealing their religion/practise to others.
Why Do People Hide in the Broom Closet? Wiccan's may be hiding in the broom closet if they are young or not wanting to disappoint a family whom believe in another religion (religions whom shame non-followers).
If you are not ready to come out of the broom closet you can still practice Wicca, a religion is what you believe in and no one can take that away from you. You don't need an alter to be Wiccan, if you still really want one here's some secret alter ideas:

It doesn't need to look all fancy, just include something to represent each element and a few other tools you may want such as a little bell or salt. Hopefully one day you will find the courage to come out of the broom closet it is very uplifting to finally not have any secrets and to be free to do as you wish without worry of others thoughts.
