I had been watching them quarrel through the window for quite a while. The voices of my friends tuned out of my hearing as I desperately tried to translate the muffled words the couple outside were tossing to eachother. The diner windows weren't clean, mucky handprints obstructing my view but I could make out some of the words they were screaming as I leant forward for a closer look.

'Come on, please forgive me, please. I love you, I swear I do.' The man begged for her love but her straightened stance and silent scoff suggested she knew better than to fall at his knees which he was doing to her.

She opened her mouth and I was ready to pounce for her next spectacular come back when a large hand jerked my shoulder back.

"Dee, come on. What the hell are you looking at?" Toby furrowed his brows in confusion and the rest of the boys all peered out the window, trying to find what I was so enthralled in.

"She was doing it again." Noah piped up, tossing his finger in the air as if he was poking at the answer.

"Doing what?" I mumbled, squinting my eyes and crossing my arms as I watched him from across the booths table.

"Oh yeah, that thing where she watches people and listens to their conversations." I smiled lightly and laughed a little. Noah, Ethan and Toby joined in on the laughing too. I couldn't help but sneak another glance at the couple out of the window while the boys weren't looking but when I turned to see them arguing and the woman absolutely beating the shit out of the man, I actually found the two kissing.

I scoffed and turned around, resting my elbows on the red shiny table as I angrily slurped my straw.

"What's up now?" Ethan asked, watching me as he fixed his green beanie that sat on top of his messy brown hair. Toby and Noah looked at me too, the curiosity was probably getting to them as well.

I sighed and spoke, "It's just, there was this couple out there and they were arguing. They guy had cheated on the girl and the girl had him begging on his knees and she was like absolutely winning the argument and she would have done so well and just left but I looked then and they were kissing." I rolled my eyes and then the boys rolled theirs after.

"That's lame." Noah said, finishing his coffee.

"I swear to god guys if I ever get in a relationship like that where he treats me like shît and I go back to him please for the love of god tell me to stop." They all chuckle and Toby nods from across the table. Ethan doesn't look up and I glance over his shoulder at his phone that he is so absorbed in.

"Sorry guys I gotta go, Gray needs picking up from his lacrosse game." We all nod and he slides out of the booth next to me before waving at everyone and leaving. He knocks the 'open' sign and it falls on the floor, tripping up one of the waitresses and her tray of glasses and plates flies through the air before shattering all over the floor.

We all stare in awe and silence before Noah bursts out laughing, his laugh sounds like a horse causing the whole diner to erupt into a chorus of laughter.

We watch Ethan frantically apologise and give the bar a fifty dollar bill before running out to his car.

I scan around the room again after the laughter dies down and people resume their indistinct murmurs.

"Are you guys finished?" Toby asks us, I stare into the empty milkshake glass, scanning for some remote sign of any remains and Noah stares into his mug which once contained black coffee, a little still clinging to the rim.

We both look at eachother before looking at Toby and nodding in unison.

"Okay, I'll pay for this weeks. Dee, you're up next week." I nod and he slides out of leather booth leaving me and Noah alone, exchanging weird smiles and basic conversation.

The boys were my best friends since I could remember. Ethan, Toby, Noah and Grayson were the only thing I ever could call friends, and I didn't care that I never had friends who were girls because to be honest I'd rather have the guys than the best girl in the world. They were like the brothers I never had. Every Friday we met in Joe's Diner for milkshakes or coffee and discussed the weeks gossip. Me and Noah went to the same school and Ethan, gray and Toby went to a different one so we always had plenty of information to share, including us regularly taking the piss out of Grayson girlfriend.

Noah started to talk to me when I felt somebody slide into the seat beside me.

At first I assumed it was Toby but judging by the confused look on Noah's face I decided it was not.

I looked to my left and found a tall, brown eyed boy with messy, curly brown hair in a light jean jacket.

"Uhm, excuse me?" I asked, tucking my brown hair from face and behind my ears.

"So, Rose-"

"My names not rose." I cut him off, moving further down the booth and away from the stranger. I saw Noah's body tense up from the corner of my eye, his nose scrunched and jaw clenched.

"Yeah well you look like a rose."

"What the fuck man?" Noah growled, getting more tempered by the asshole in front of me. I shot him a look that suggested he calm down and he sat back in his seat.

"Oh sorry are you her boyfriend?" The brunette asked, running his large hand, which was displaying a silver ring, though his messy hair. He squashed his words out rudely, as though he already knew the answer.

"No..." Noah mumbled and Shawn smiled cockily, a finger resting on his pointed jaw.

"Then what's the problem? Listen, Rose, I think you're extremely beautiful and I'd love to take you out sometime." He placed a napkin with his number in front of me on the table, it was a little wet, the handwritten was scruffy and the ink had melted into the tissue paper.

I looked at Noah and scoffed.

"Nice try, buddy." I laughed loudly and climbed over the table in my white trainers to Noah's side of the booth where I actually could successfully leave.

Noah walked out in front of me and I followed behind him, leaving the brunette boy on his own.

"My names Shawn." He mumbled behind us and I ignored him.

Toby collided with us on the way out.

We all walked out of the glass doors, the boys on either side of me as Noah explained the asshole who tried to get my number.
