Destinee was a little kid when she was found on the streets and adopted by Charlie Swan. He made this decision without his ex-wife Renée and their daughter Bella.
He found the little eight year old girl sitting next to a lonely building in the cold and pouring rain. He was doing a patrol in his police car and with another colleague. He saw the girl, stomped on the breaks and picked her up. He then drove to the police station where an orphanage was called, which sent two workers to take the kid with them. But she didn't want to and locked herself in the toilet.
After much time of talking and convincing, Charlie managed it to lure her out. He promised the little girl that she wouldn't have to go to an orphanage.
"And what are we going to do with her then?" the other colleague, which was in the car too, had asked.
Charlie had thought for a moment before answering him.
"Then I will adopt her", he had simply said.
Since then she was living with him and he gave her the name Destinee.
