"Liam? What are you doing? We don't know what that is! It could be dangerous!" Judy stepped back, holding Liam's arm. The blonde boy didn't reply, but instead shrugged her off and walked toward the shadowy figure.
"We mean no harm, we're just curious so we went exploring and got a little lost, do you live here? Can you help us?" Liam smiled warmly again at the unwavering yet wide gaze before him. After much silence, Liam stepped forward again and looked down at the feet of the figure.
"Oh, your stuck!" The young Drawolf cried sympathetically. The figure did not move or say a word as Liam knelt down and, with some difficulty, moved the large rocks away. Judy finally gave in and knelt by the shadowy figure as well.
"I can't heal it, but I can soothe the wound with water." Judy pulled out a pouch full of stream water. The figure seemed to hesitate but then nodded. Liam stood and looked around for a bit, coming back with large leaves and some vines. After a stable bandage was in place, the figure stood and dipped it's head,
"...Teeankou..." Judy had a glint of worry in her deep blue eyes,
"No problem, can you stand okay?" Liam smiled at his friends helpfulness. The figure nodded and limped forward into the light. It was a young, unevolved Drawolf. She was thin and scraggly looking, with a long silver ponytail. Her right eyes was covered by a black mask and the tips of two scars shown out from under the mask and went across her nose. Her left eye was a light, misty blue and seemed to stare at nothing. Her clothes were torn and mangled, making it seem she had been living outside. Her dark blue feathered wings were clearly uncared for and her left, light blue ear had a sizable notch in it. Judy gave a small gasp and stepped back. Liam gazed on in curiosity, surely this Drawolf has an incredible story. The girl shifted uncomfortably under Liam's stare,
"Is something wrong?" She asked, staring off in the distance. Liam was at a loss for why this girl wouldn't look at him,
"No, nothing's wrong. Who are you? Where are you from?" He scratched his head. She flattened her ears in disgust,
"Somewhere unworthy of mention...I-I ran away...my name is Megan." She fluttered her navy blue wings with a sigh. Liam thought hard, the name was unfamiliar.
"Can you not see us?" Judy asked suddenly. Liam gaped at her,
"Judy!" He was shocked by her rude, forward question.
"No, no its fine...yes I'm blind, I was born that way." Megan nodded. Liam bit his lip as he glanced from Judy to Megan, something was...similar about them. Judy folded her arms,
"So, why are you here?" She seemed defensive...a bit too defensive in Liam's opinion. Megan sat down on a rock with a sigh and a dismissive flick of her tail,
"I'm here to pray to Starea about what to do next...I was also worshipping the Elementals, mostly the water Elemental though...something happened and when the dust cleared I was stuck until you helped me. I ran away for a reason and I am not about to turn back home." Megan growled softly. Liam's interest sparked,
"You know about the Elementals too? What can you tell us about this place?" His ears were perked in excitement. A smile twitched on the corner of Megan's mouth.
"Sit down and I'll tell you everything I know..." She pointed to a rock in front of her. Judy looked intrigued also, but she held back determined to not let this new girl get to her. Liam, however, sat down eagerly and listened as Megan began her tale.
-----
"Wow...so you're not Drawolf? And did your teacher really say you were worthless? So did ours!" Liam leaned forward in awe. Megan giggled,
"Yes, I come from an ancient, faraway population of Dracats. Its a dwindling species from long ago that has barely survived, most are leaving for a better life...I left because I'm tired of being treated differently, like I said before. I want to find somewhere else to become evolved. I stopped at this temple to ask where to go, then you found me! Looks like my prayer was answered." The young Dracat grinned affectionately in Liam's direction. Judy frowned,
"How long have you been alone?" She wrinkled her nose. Megan flicked back her ears, her sightless eyes widening,
"Too long..." Liam nodded,
"I'll bet. No one wants to be alone for that long, do you want to come back with us? I'm sure my father will be okay with it." He opened his small silver wings but then Judy stopped him.
"How would we tell them? My mom will be furious if she found out I came here!" She hissed. Liam frowned,
"Then I guess we'll both have to deal with the consequences! We can just leave Megan here!" Liam argued. Judy huffed,
"Friends don't get each other in trouble." She growled,
"Friends also don't lie and hide things from each other and other people! I want to be honest because if we don't help her she might not make it!..." Liam shouted and then glanced back at Megan guiltily. Judy furrowed her brow,
"Why do you care about her?" She asked sourly. Liam bared his teeth,
"Because death is worse than you getting scolded." And with that, Liam helped Megan into the sky. Judy clenched her fists and bit her lip. I'll show you I'm better than her Liam Tuso! She thought in bitter anger, feeling burning jealously toward Megan begin to form. Besides, the prophecy was given to me and it sure didn't include her! She assured herself and followed the others back into Wildclan territory.
