"We are here..." He barely heard her whisper. Liam looked forward in confusion. Creeping forward, the young female slid out of the brush and into an icy moat. Following suspiciously Liam gasped as cold water swirled around his short torso. He kept an eye on the purple creature swimming confidently ahead of him and when he finally make it to shore, he and Judy both shook themselves out like dogs.
"Where are we?" Liam hissed between clenched teeth, shivering violently. Judy smiled at him,
"The Temple of the Elements." As if the name called it, a large purple butterfly swooped down from the top of the temple and landed on Liam's arm.
"Hold onto that, Li...We'll need it..." Judy grinned with a wild look in her blue eyes. Liam stared at the purple butterfly in confusion,
"How much do you know about this place? It looks ancient!" He scrambled up the side ledge of the temple with slight difficultly.
"My grandma told me stories about the Elements...and the Queen. She said there was an old temple of worship in the forest above a small waterfall...and now I'm finally here." Judy fluttered up to the large golden doors and gave them a strong shove. Liam blinked in amusement at the excited, struggling girl and ran up to assist her. Grunting in effort, the duo finally managed to slide the doors widen enough apart to fit through. Liam was panting as he ran after Judy, who was dashing down the hall in front of them.
"W-wait up!" Liam stumbled and glanced down at the large purple creature in his hands. It let off a strange yet calming glow.
"Come on!" Judy's voice sounded farther down the hall. Rolling his eyes, the silver winged boy ran until he caught up, which was only because his partner had stopped. His sides cramped and he was gasping for breath, but the beauty of the room in front of him made him ignore the pain. It was large and circular with a high ceiling. It had no windows, but there was a small waterfall trickling from the far wall, creating a large pond in the center of the room. The round moon-like crystals on the walls around the room gave of a glow and illuminated the water, casting a mysterious light around the whole area.
"...Woah." Liam was brought back to earth as Judy gasped. He looked at the room again. It looked familiar...The butterfly squirmed in Liam's hands, reminding him of it.
"What did we need this for?" He held the creature up to Judy. She had a wistful glint in her eyes. My grandmama told me what it was for...but now I can't seem to remember." She scrunched up her face in thought. Liam looked around,
"Does it have anything to do with this room?" He asked, trying to be helpful. Judy shook her head, making her red hair bounce.
"No no, I think it's for the main room." She brightened up and skipped out of the round room without another look. Liam, however, glanced back at the room once more in confusion. So familiar, but new...Sighing, the young Drawolf followed his companion into the next hall.
-----
"Is this the main room?" Liam groaned. Judy chewed her thumb nail again,
"Um, no...I think it's this way." She pointed down the hall they went through the last time. Liam sighed dramatically,
"That's it, we're lost. This is a labyrinth! We'll never get out..." He shifted his grip on the purple butterfly. Judy scoffed,
"Ecuezeme! (a/n E-cu-ez-me: means 'excuse me') We are not lost! I know where we are going and where we've been!" She folded her arms tightly in disagreement. Liam shook his head,
"Maybe I should lead for a bit?" He stepped forward. Judy put her arm out suddenly, hitting him in the stomach,
"No I got this!" She snapped. Liam winced in pain, but then he realized something worse. Tapping Judy on the shoulder he pointed down a new hallway,
"Um, I lost the butterfly..." The duo looked at each other in fear and then ran down the hall after it.
"Why did you let go?" Judy groaned and ran faster. Liam clenched his teeth at the tightness in his sides,
"Because you hit me and knocked it out of my hands!" Judy simply rolled her eyes and continued running. Liam was impressed by her stamina but he was falling behind. Come on! He willed his legs move faster. Judy was gaining on the butterfly while Liam was slowing down. Golden light could be seen at the end of the hall and it seemed to call to Liam, giving him energy. The large butterfly was leading them! Liam realized in excitement,
"Judy! Don't catch it! Follow it!" Liam called after the red head, still out of breath, but moving a bit faster. The light was growing brighter and soon enough the pair of Drawolves burst into warm daylight. The largest room of the temple had fallen down until it only had part of the walls left standing. Sunlight was shining down on the large circular floor, which was decorated with many symbols. The jungle seemed to be slowly creeping into the temple all around them and the rush of the river could be heard faintly. The butterfly hovered in front of Liam for a moment, then seemed to dip down as if bowing before taking to the skies. Movement in the corner of his eye caught his attention. He blinked in confusion as one misty blue eye stared through the darkness. But he felt a warmness as he gazed at it, almost as if he trusted whoever the eye belonged to,
"Hello? We mean no harm, who are you?" Liam smiled and called into the darkness.
