Unlike her sister, Kara Danvers loved Valentine's Day. Unfortunately, Lena was busy at work already making plans for another gala event. She hoped to raise money for the family children's hospital, and the event was set to take place in a couple months. Even though the couple couldn't spend the whole day together, Kara took advantage of Lena's absence, flying to a jewelry store near her apartment while Lena was preoccupied at L-Corp.

As soon as she arrived the store owner, John, smiled at her, waving her inside. Kara flashed a smile back, biting her lip due to her nervousness. She wasn't here for just a promise ring this time; it was for the real deal.

"Lena Luthor sure is one lucky lady," he greeted her, placing a hand on Kara's shoulder. The two exchanged an embrace, proceeded by John walking behind the counter, placing a display on the glass counter.

The blonde pointed at a few. "These are the ones we talked about?" The man nodded.

"Yep, and these are the silver band options. I also have--" he paused to reach under the counter, revealing another rack with a variety of gorgeous jewels, "--these beauties."

Kara carefully scanned the band options, picking them up and inspecting them. She was stuck between a thicker, twisted band and a simple single-band with three places for different gems to go into. She pondered for a moment, then chose the latter. She chuckled to herself, saving the more extravagant option for their wedding bands.

The shop owner nodded approvingly. "Ms. Luthor has always seemed to be a simpler type. You told me she hates drawing attention to herself, huh?"

Kara laughed again, adjusting her glasses. "Yeah, even though she deserves all of it. Actually, she's planning a gala right now, and she's been practicing her speech in front of me ten times a day because she's so nervous to talk in front of all those people. The gala isn't for another 4 months!"

John smirked, fumbling through the gem case. "So are you planning to propose then?"

Kara looked down, fidgeting with her hands. "Well, y-yeah. Do you think it's a bad idea?"

He spoke without making eye contact, giving her a few gems to look through. "You know her better than anyone, Ms. Danvers, but it's what you think is right."

Kara stopped for a moment, chewing on the inside of her lip. She was reminded of Maggie's proposal to Alex, which was definitely more subtle. Suddenly, an idea sparked in her mind as she thought of her sister, something that would be special and perfect for Lena. She met her eyes with John's, smirking.

"You're right, let's go simple for now and wait for the wedding to go all out," Kara announced.

"Perfect, now which stone would you like to put on the ring? Typically with the three separate places on this style, customers choose two small diamonds on the side and a larger, more colorful gem in the middle," John explained.

"Which options do I have?" she asked.

A big smile plastered the man's face. "I've been waiting for this day for a while, as I usually do with frequent customers. So here I obviously have an emerald to match her eyes. But what's beautiful about this stone that many people don't know is that they actually emit a blue undertone--"

"Just like Lena's eyes," Kara breathed, finishing his thought. John confirmed her remark with a smirk.

She bit her lip, grinning. "Also, the emerald has been known to help with fertility issues..." he mentioned. Kara nodded, but she drew her attention away from John to a shimmering blue stone in the center of the display.
