As far back as she could remember, her mother was a beautiful but frail woman while her father was a busy and cruel man. In his eyes, only the image of her mother was reflected, never her or anyone else. Despite all that, she loved her mother dearly and every so often, she would bring up stories of the outside world. Lucy always listened in fascination, glancing out the window in wonder. She just so went outside to accompany her father on a business trip when she was five and upon seeing the insignia, she fell in love.

"What's that?" Lucy asked her maid, pointing at the building.

"Huh?" the maid replied back as she looked towards where Lucy was pointing at. "Ahhhh. Lucy-sama, that's called a guild."

"A guild?" Lucy repeated.

Upon returning back home, Lucy immediately questioned her mother what a guild was. Layla smiled softly as she started explaining what a guild was. She didn't go on to explain it in complicated words but rather, in simple words.

"A guild is a place where mages and wizards of all kinds gather and have fun. It's where numerous adventures, friendships, and relationships start," Layla explained.

Lucy's eyes shined in expectation as she listened to the words of her mother.

"By the way Lucy," Layla asked. "Why'd you ask that?"

"While I was with Papa on the business trip, I saw this insignia," Lucy replied happily as she drew it out.

Upon seeing it, Layla widened her eyes before settling her lips into a soft smile. Her eyes glimmered with hope as she held Lucy close to her, tears in her eyes. Being a celestial spirit wizard, she had the ability to tell the future according to the alignment of the stars and she had once glanced into Lucy's future.

"Lucy, my child. Fairy Tail will be a good guild for you."

"Fairy Tail?" Lucy asked, glancing at her mother as she was held in her embrace.

Layla nodded her head. "Fairy Tail. The strongest guild in Fiore as well as a guild that cherishes bonds more than anything."

Lucy widened her eyes in excitement as she enthusiastically nodded her head.

"Fairy Tail! I'll definitely join it one day!"

10 years later~

"Hey weakling, you still have the nerve to show your face here?" a guild member yelled as he threw a table at her.

Out of instinct, Lucy immediately dodged to the side, though she did manage to get a cut on her face due to the wood splinters that grazed her cheek. She touched her cheek as she made her way to the bar where she usually sat by herself.

"A strawberry vanilla milkshake please," Lucy muttered.

"Here you go," Mirajane said, slamming it down onto the counter, causing Lucy to flinch.

"Thanks," Lucy murmured with a smile to which Mirajane only glared at her and left her alone to enjoy her drink.

The constant snickering behind her back as well as the foul words that came out of their mouth...she was used to it. At first, she had thought about dying for with all the constant hateful attention she was getting, what point was there in her existence? With much work, her celestial spirits finally convinced her to give it up. Things will change, they said. Holding onto that slight glimmer of hope, she had walked into the guild for at least three months, thinking that someday it was all going to change.

"Just get lost!" another yelled as he threw a ball of magic towards her.

It deflected. Knowing what was going on, Makarov had provided her with a tool that allowed any magic to be deflected from her. Of course, sometimes the barrier chipped a little due to multiple attacks but even so, it stayed sturdy. At least, for now.
