soft humming floated in the background, it was a feeling that took away all the pressure and stress that normal life inflated on him. liam looked at the cars and buses driving away, people passing each other on the street, they each were coming from somewhere, going somewhere, had some story or secret bottled up inside, coats flying in the crisp early january wind.

his phone buzzed in his pocket, jessie, calling him for what was the millionth time that hour, he pressed on silence and turned to face his companion for the afternoon, his newly gained roomate and friend; aspyn oxford.

"who keeps caling you?"

"my past. but that doesnt matter," her eyes held a dull shine to them, dark circles covered the underneath of her eyes, but she wasnt tired, "then block her number."

"cant."

"why?" he sighed, he didnt know how to tell her, he wanted to let go, to let go so badly, but he couldnt, he would, eventually, but for now, all he could was let it go to voicemail.

"first you story aspyn."

"heartbreak." her breath was crystal fog in the late winter, he smiled, she tossed her head back and laughed, and a deep connection formed between them, and liam instantly knew.
