The skeleton lived inside his wife's closet for many years waiting for her to join him in death so that the curse could be broken. He didn't have much to do but listen and observe his wife through the closet key whole. He wondered why she hadn't kept any of his belonging. All his possessions had been removed and it was as though he had never existed.

Thirty winters would pass and still her wife's health would not dwindle. She had the health of an ox. Time passed very slowly for him. Every bone in his body was bored to death. He wanted to make her feel his presence without terrifying her. So he began to leave subtle clues around the house that would remind her of him.

One day, as she was tiding up the house, she found her husband's pocket watch on her beside table and his wedding ring on the bathroom sink. This discovery gave her chills and made her hairs stand. She grabbed her raincoat and stormed out of the house under heavy rain and thunder. The skeleton was surprised by her reaction. He expected her to be overjoyed to find the ring but instead she looked horrified. After several hours, the wife returned home accompanied by the village priest.
