I woke up slowly processing what happened last night and nearly screamed, nearly. I immediately looked over to see a sleeping Jake and let me say I liked him better this way. And why was I lying next to him like we were some lovey dovey couple?! I jumped up hastily and made sure no one was awake, no one was. I got a better view of the room as the morning light streamed in revealing football and cheerleaders everywhere. I almost laughed when one cheerleader kicked a football player in his special area, he didn't wake up though he continued to twitch and a tiny moan escaped his mouth. Josh and Alisa were asleep on the couch, which meant that the house was free for me to explore. I went to the bathroom to freshen up when a thought hit me.

It was Valentines Day, ugh, which meant it was my birthday, one more year closer to death. I waited for the burning of my body that happened when I aged. It started since I was 10 but I don't know what it does. Instead of that burning sensation, I felt this wrenching, piercing, agonizing tug in my body and I dropped to the ground, quickly losing consciousness.

I opened my eyes and freaked, what was that? Did anyone wake up? Did I scream? I'd only been gone for 15 minutes so I must be safe. I rose unsteadily and went to the bathroom to check myself. I looked in the mirror and gasped, I looked different, same features and hair color and stuff but more beautifuller, wiser, deadlier. I also felt stronger. I shrugged, must have hit my head and these are illusions. I walked out of the bathroom and heard some life in the room so I walked up the stairs and came upon a mess of football and cheerleaders stirring. The one that got kicked moaned and jumped up, running straight for the bathroom. Alisa sat up rubbing her eyes and Josh got up, heading downstairs. Alisa walked over to me, still rubbing her eyes. She stared at me then yawned, "Did you even sleep last night? You got bags under your eyes," she said. "I do?" I said, surprise filling my voice. She shrugged, "It's your birthday, what do you want to eat?" she asked and I groaned. "Be quiet, I don't want anyone to know of my birthday, so can thy not talk about it?" I ask and she blinked. "What was that?" she asked slowly. "What was what?" "You said 'thy'." "No, I said 'you'," I say, irritation creeping into me. Why can't I just blast this annoying mortal to pieces? I blinked, whoa; I didn't think that, I shouldn't have. "I'll take thy up on that breakfast promise," I say and she blinked again. I heard it also, what was up with me? She just shook her head and walked down the stairs me following, of course. I glanced back and saw Jake had risen and was putting away the blankets and pillows. Thank the gods that her table was huge because she needed to fit the football players, cheerleaders, Josh, Derek, Jake, me and then her and that's an awful lot of people. "What do you want?" she says. "Umm, french toast with a light touch of vanilla and syrup with a glass of sweet milk and I'd also like a warm bath ready for me with rose petals in it and I'd like to get dressed in my most beautiful dress, so can you handle those?" I ask her, not even looking at her but paying attention to Jake who just came down the stairs. The kitchen grew silent and I glanced around, everyone was staring at me like I was crazy. "What?" I demanded, glaring at them all. "You have no right to look at me without my permission," I say and then clapped a hand over my mouth, what did I just say? I glanced at Alisa and her mouth was open in shock. "Umm, forget whatever I said earlier, I just want french toast with whipped cream," I say quickly, giving her an 'I'll explain later' look. She nodded and started the french toast while the conversation slowly picked up, I hate my birthdays, they always make me act weird but this one was really bugging me. Jake sat down next to me, his body rigid. Then Derek appeared, wearing dark blue jeans and a dark blue leather top. He grinned at me and I glared, I still haven't forgotten what he did to me. He sat next to me, "Look Emily, sorry about what happened yesterday, but something was wrong with me and my team, we were eating some food and we just changed and started behaving wildly, I'm really sorry," he said, his voice sincere. I looked him in the eye and I could see a touch of sadness in them, I sighed, he knew how to get to me. "I forgive you, just don't do it again," I told him and he smiled, pulling me into a hug. I froze then relaxed, seeing this was a brotherly hug. I quickly glanced at Jake, was he angry at what I did? No, he didn't seem to notice. "Here's your french toast," Alisa said, sliding a plate full of french toast and whipped cream. I grabbed a fork and dug in, I love french toast. "What are we doing today?" I say my mouth full of french toast. "It's a surprise, you know that," Alisa said and I shook my head. "No! You said we were going to an amusement park, I think." I try racking my brains for any memories of that. My mind was distracted when a fork snuck over and took a piece of MY whipped french toast. "Hey! That's mine, leave it alone," I cried out, struggling to get it back but it was popped into the mouth of a smirking Jake. "Thy is such a pig," I said angrily and he choked on his french toast, served him right. "'Thy'?" he questioned. "Shut up," I mutter, hurriedly finishing them so he couldn't take any. Derek was staring at me funny and I glared at him. "Why are you all staring at me? It's my birthday and I demand you stop it at once!" I say and they stared again. The football players and cheerleaders didn't stop talking but Josh, Alisa, Bella, Derek, and Jake were staring at me. "Are you okay Em? You're seriously scaring me with this act," Alisa said anxiously and I growled. "I'm fine! I'm a princess, I'm always fine." I froze, princess? What the hell? I put my plate in the sink and ran back to the room, hurriedly putting on black skinny jeans, a white off the shoulder top, and black vans. I brushed my hair out and put it into a ponytail before running down the stairs and out the door, leaving a bewildered Alisa, Josh, Derek, Bella, and Jake behind. Sky grey eyes flashing murderously, weren't you supposed to feel happy on your birthday? All around me were couples kissing, holding hands, groping each other and eating candy out of each others mouth. This is exactly why I hate Valentines Day, boys can act civil for once and I might fall in love and I won't. I walked through the streets and looked at the beach, it was full already but I knew it would get fuller when it hit afternoon because it's going to be HOT. I suddenly had an urge to head toward the park, I don't know why. The song began playing as I made my way in through the gates. The place was full of people beginning a party or a picnic but the song tuned that out, all that mattered was that I had to go somewhere in the park. I went deeper and deeper into the park, the trees closing off my exit so it was more like woods. I heard the sound of a waterfall close by but I didn't care, that wasn't where I wanted to go. A log blocked my way but i quickly removed it and continued on my way, the log still floating in the air. I emerged into a small clearing, the waterfall on my right and the stream on my left. In the center was a huge slab of stone, I didn't know why I was here, but something told me to wait. There was a rustling behind me and I turned around to see a tall man emerge from the trees. He had grey eyes and dark black hair streaked with grey. He looked to be fifty something but his eyes showed he was much, much older. "Ahh, you've grown Serenity," the man said. I felt confused, who was Serenity? But my body didn't show my confusion, I just nodded, I apparently was on auto pilot. He chuckled, "You appear to be confused," he said. I finally spoke but it wasn't ME speaking. "No," my auto pilot said, my voice perfectly neutral. "Do you remember what happened, do you remember anything?" he asked and I got more confused. I finally forced myself to take control though my body fought I won. "Who the hell are you, what the hell are you talking about, and why the hell am I here?" I asked, anger and confusion in my voice. He laughed, he actually laughed at me! I snarled, "I'm leaving, you can keep your crazy talking away from me," I said, turning on my heel and about to leave when he caught my arm. "Now, do you really think that the King of Dark Angels would just leave his prey leave after finally catching her?" he whispered, staring me in the eye. My sky blue eyes widened and I shook my head. He smiled, "So you can safely assure yourself you're not going anywhere, your coming with me," he said and I ripped my arm free. "Now I know your crazy, the king of dark angels? I mean, seriously, I would help you if you weren't creeping me out," I said, my eyes holding the arm he clutched because it hurt like crazy. He sighed, "Do we have to do things the hard way Serenity?" he asked. "Why are you calling me that, my names Emily, not Serenity," I said angrily. "Whatever you say, but have you noticed the way you've been acting since the starting of this day, I mean, your other birthdays were just fueling what was to happen when you turn eighteen, don't you want to know about your real parents?" he asked and I froze. I really did want to know, I wanted to know why they left me in the care of that family. "What about them and how did you know I was adopted?" I asked, this crazy guy couldn't have known that. He shrugged, "I know most things, like your origin," he said and I felt more confused. "Stop confusing me, just leave me alone," I say. I turned to go when the trees ahead of me burst into flame; I jumped back, a shriek coming from my mouth. I turned to see the guy blowing off his fingers. "What the hell?..." I muttered my eyes wide. "What? You don't think I have any powers?" he asked. "Okay, stop thinking you caused the fire, it was probably an accident," I say. He raised an eyebrow and smirked and that somehow reminded me of Jake. The fire disappeared, leaving no damage behind. "Special affects, your probably using special affects," I say. He sighed, "You are a complete idiot Serenity, I think this mortal air has polluted your mind, I already feel dizzy and I've been here only an hour," he said. "You're even prettier then your mother," he said, walking up to me. I backed away, I needed to leave and I needed to leave now. I turned and ran toward the trees, not looking back or stopping, I didn't know if he was following or to surprised to do anything. He was probably doing both. I heard him sigh and then disappear, literally. I looked back and he wasn't there, good, maybe he gave up. I smacked into something hard and looked up into those grey eyes. He grinned, "Not easy getting rid of me, and you can call me Marcus," he said. "King Marcus." I ground my teeth in frustration, "Why is it so hard for you to accept that I don't know what the hell your talking about and that your crazy?" I say and he laughed. "I'll let you go if you listen to me for once," he said. I stared at him, unsure. "Fine, promise," I say and his face turned hard. I thought he was going to say know but he surprised me. He knelt down, put his right fist over his heart and said: "I swear on the kingdom and throne of BlackHeart that I shall release the Princess Serenity when she's done hearing me listen, if I break this vow, I will kill myself personally," he said then got up smiling. "Okay, that works for me, even though it was crazy talk, I can tell you vowed something," I said. I followed him back to the clearing and sat on the slab of stone. He opened his mouth to speak when a figure came out of the woods. I gasped when I saw it was Jake and Derek, their faces looking murderous. "What are thy doing here?" I demanded, forgetting to say 'you'. They both ignored me, their attention on the man behind me. "Father, what the hell are you doing, do we have to kill you," Jake said, his voice soft.
