"damn is it storming out." said Frank as he lit a cigar.

"quite smoking in the house!" said my grandfather, taking his cigar and putting it out on the ash tray.

my grandfather runs the mafia and has and will for a long time.

"hey, Ed?" said my cousin Cosma.

"yeah?" i asked going up to him by the window.

"you see that kid out there?" he asked.

i followed his gaze and sure enough there was a small girl out there couldn't be more than ten, shivering in the rain.

"you think she's lost?" i asked him.

"don't know." he said.

"go bring her in." said Grandfather.

we looked at him surprised, he is a very gracious man but not one to invite strangers into his house. we're dangerous people, with a high profile so people could be out to assassinate us at any chance.

"you sure?" i asked him, surprised.

"I've seen her walk by here many times, one of our men said that he had the pleasure of talking to her once. she lives on the streets. crashing on couches." he said to me.

"alright." i said unsure before taking a umbrella and walking out and across the street in the poring rain. as i got closer she didn't move.

"you okay kid?" i asked her.

i soon realized she was asleep, so i picked her up, getting my suit wet in the process. that doesn't matter though, what matters is getting this kid some god damn food. she weighed nothing!

after bringing her inside Grandfather told me to put her on the couch with a blanket.

"what is your plan for when she wakes up?" i asked him as i tucked her under two layers of blankets to get her to stop shivering.

"we get her well fed, then see if she can stay." he said with a small smile.

"your just opening up our house to an outsider?" asked Frank shocked.

"you wouldn't even let my Honey spend the night!" he protested.

"your 'Honey' just so happened to turn out to be a cop. this is a kid, who needs a home." he stated.

Grandfather is a very kind man, i just never thought him to be this kind. he only brings out his dark side during the 'dirty work.'

"fine..." Frank muttered in defeat.

"Edvige, get a fire started for her, then we need to go discuss some stuff."
