The Zodiac
Ang Zodiac ay isang serial killer na nagsagawa ng kanyang krimen sa Northern California nung mga panahong 1960 to early 1970s. Ang pagkakakilanlan niya hanggang ngayon ay nananatiling misteryo at ang mga biktima niya ay 4 na lalake 3 babae mula edad 16 hanggang 29 mula Dec 1968 hanggang Oct 1969 sa mga lugar ng Benicia, Vallejo Lake Berryesa at San Francisco. Binansagan siyang "Zodiac" dahil sa mga pinadadala niyang nakakagalit na mga liham sa Local Bay Area Press ang sulat ay naglalaman ng parang puzzle na kailangan mong tuklasin tinatawag itong cryptograms(ciphers) 4 ang kanyang pinadala at out of the 4 isa pa lamang ang kanilang nadecode.
Ang kaso ng Zodiac ay nananatiling unsolved hanggang ngayon at ang mga code ay hindi pa din nadedecipher at hindi pa rin natutuklasan.
Ang larawan ay sketch ng killer at yung isang image ay example ng isa sa kanyang famous cryptograms.
The Victims
David Arthur Faraday and Betty Lou Jensen
The Zodiac shot and killed Faraday, aged 17, and Jensen, aged 16, on December 20, 1968. The high school students had been parked on the side of the road in the outskirts of Vallejo, California. Police had no idea why the pair was killed or who had killed them.
The Zodiac Killer is one of America’s most infamous serial killers. During the 1960s and 70s, Zodiac murdered at least five people, often couples in secluded areas, near San Francisco. His first victim was Cheri Jo Bates. He wrote a confession about her, including a message to “beware…”
The media has been captivated by the Zodiac Killer because of his relationship with media. Zodiac began sending coded messages taunting police to various newspapers very soon after his first murder. He signed these letters with a circle with a plus sign over it, his symbol. He infamously sent a cipher that said, “This is the Zodiac speaking. By the way have you cracked the last cipher I sent you? My name is…” This was followed by a series of 13 symbols that were supposed to be his name, encoded. To this day, this code has not been cracked.
The Zodiac Killer case remains unsolved. Although suspects have come forward – and continue to come forward, to this day – no one has been confirmed as the actual Zodiac Killer. Some of the more famous suspects include Arthur Leigh Allen, who was dismissed because of his handwriting sample, and Earl Van Best, Jr., more recently, who was accused by his son in a tell-all book, The Most Dangerous Animal of All.
