The fog in my brain cleared and I found myself in a blood bath, surrounded by the bodies of police officers. What the hell have I done?
It was night time now. I went up to one of the police cars with the door open. They had left the keys in the ignition. I quickly hopped in, closed the door and started it up. The police wouldn't be looking for a criminal in a police car, at least not without reason.
I drove to the freeway then got off on an exit all too familiar. It led me to a forest, one I went to when ever I messed up. I drove the police car far into the forest then ran to my normal spot, quite a ways away.
What the hell am I going to do? I lost her. I'm a wanted criminal. I can no longer have a career in music. I have nothing.
I knew one thing, I wasn't going to let her stay with Ryan. At the very least not without knowing the whole story.
I ran out of the woods, and kept going for what could have been minutes, hours, seconds, I had lost all sense of time. Then a two story with bright lights pouring out of every window came into sight.
The was a protection sheild on it, but someone had left the door open, so all the good that did. It was quiet at first, but then there were footsteps coming downstairs. I hid behind them.
"Ryan!" It was Y/N. She was calling his name. He'd already got to her, there was no 'if's anymore. I stood silent.
"Ryan?" She was in the kitchen now. I could tell she was getting a knife.
"Hello?" She called again, walking into the living room.
I took a couple steps out. "Hey."
She spun around. Sure enough she did have a knife, and had it pointed at me. I looked in her eyes. They were unreadable, she was blocking me from seeing what was in her mind. Though I didn't know if she knew what she was doing or not, because I don't think she ever knew how much I always read from her eyes, it was the quickest way to see what she was really feeling, but now I can't. She could be thinking anything, and it scared me a little.
She stood there, not moving. Her grip was so tight on the knife her fingers had turned ghostly pale and her knuckles glowed through her skin.
"Y/N P-" I took a step closer, trying to talk in a soothing way, like she was a scared animal.
"Stay away from me!" She acted like a terrified person would but it was like there was no real terror behind it.
"Y/N, I would never hurt you, not in my right mind. I- I-" I had hoped she knew this already, but I was still going to remind her.
"You're a murderer!" Her words were worse than any thing I could describe. I don't give a single fuck what people think of me, but if she thought I was a monster then that's exactly how I felt, and it doesn't feel good to think yourself a monster.
I looked in her eyes, and it was like a barrier had been broken, I could read them again, I could sense her emotions again. With this the knife slipped from her hand.
"Y/N-"
"What did you come here for?" Suddenly there was venom behind her words, this wasn't the wall or her, it was the front she always put on for other people, the one full of sarcasm that picks and prods at you trying to see if your a threat or not. Something as innocent and fragile as her needs it."Why come here? What did you hope to accomplish? Kill Ryan? He's not here. Kill me? Go ahead. I won't fight you...not you." She looked at the ground.
"I just wanted to see you. I love you. You are the one person I would lay down everything for."
She was frozen, looking at the ground. I walked up to her and wrapped my arms around her, hoping to comfort her, because I was getting the feeling that our words weren't getting us anywhere.
She didn't push me away but she didn't return the hug, yet I felt almost something melt, so I didn't dare let go.
"I would never kill you, I couldn't." That fact that she could think otherwise ate away at me. The thought of losing her though made it to were I couldn't do anything to stop my voice wavering. "It would hurt worse than anything, because you, Y/N are my weakness."
Just audible enough to hear and barely clear enough to understand she practically squeaked. "I love you too. Please don't ever leave me." My hold around her just tightened.
"I would never doll."
"Thanks, babe." she giggled and wrapped her arms around me. I looked down at her.
"Babe?" Does she remember?
"I think I heard it in a dream once." She furrowed her brow. "There was a guy in it. Just like you." She smiled. "Guess your just my dream guy."
I laughed a little. "I guess so."
"Brendon get the hell away from her." I turned around, Ryan had a gun pointed at me.
I quickly stepped in front of Y/N, blocking her from him, "Y/N get out of here."
"Bren-" she started.
"No! I know you never listen but I need you to go. I can't have you getting hurt."
"You mean you don't want her to see the monster you truly are." Ryan interjected.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Sure." I looked at Y/N. She was acting terrified of me, but her eyes told me something Ryan could never see. She was only acting, and never had I ever felt more confident than in that moment. I had her on my side, we would win.
"Y/N come here, I can't risk shooting you." Ryan said, his locked aim not wavering.
She went run behind him, but I grabbed her wrist and pulled her back.
"Go ahead, shoot. I dare you." I coaxed, standing with my arms out, chest exposed.
"Hm. I have a better idea." he smiled. He pointed the gun at his foot.
"Ryan, what are you doing?" Y/N asked.
"Bren, why don't you tell her? What is going to happen when I pull this trigger?" I gulped.
"You wouldn't. You're lying."
"What's going to happen? Brendon?" She had stopped acting I could hear the terror in her voice. It was genuine.
"Okay, you call my bluff? Don't stop me, you won't have anything to stop. But you'll be the one suffering if I'm not. Y/N you see, there's some stuff Brenny boy here hasn't told you. I was about to when you woke up but I had heard he'd escaped and there was something outside. I went to check and I come back I see him holding you. So Bren, shall we see what will happen next?"
"You're the one pulling the trigger." I stated.
"Again but let's think why things are this way. Oh yeah, you are." Then the gunshot rang and not soon after so did Y/N's scream.
"NO!" I shouted. I knelt down next to her. "Y/N, hey, it's gonna be okay." She wouldn't look at me. She just stared at the ground, holding her foot in her hands. Then at Ryan.
He walked up to her, holding a hand out. She took it, and for a second she just stood there. Then took off faster than I could comprehend, even with having the pain of being shot in the foot, straight out the door.
Ryan went to go after her, but I pinned him to the floor. "How dare you!?! You hurt her! Now you want to go after her? Not while I'm alive." I spat in his face.
He just laughed. This was too familiar. "Well you keep telling yourself that, but one thing is true, even when you think you have her I'll know she's mine. She'll always want me. And I will always be there to sweep her off her feet, and sweep her up from you."
"But here's the thing, Ry. I have one thing you don't, one thing you'll never have. I have her love. She is too innocent and loving to fall for someone as heartless as you."
"Says the demon." he said, rolling his eyes. "To the angel."
"Yup." I said popping the 'p'. Then I used my magic and his house plants tied him up. "Now as much as I would love to rip your heart out of your chest, I can't without killing her too, and something tells me that Y/N wouldn't want me to comit murder, even if it was you. So, so long, buddy. I'm off to find my girl."
I ran out the door and into the forest, following imprints in the grass.
"Y/N!" I called.
