"Smoking kills, you know," the voice penetrated the once still air, the sudden noise startling the young male. He let the cigarette dangle between his thin fingers, his arm resting against the railing. He turned to look at the intruder who took cautious steps towards him.
"I don't need a health lesson," the male replied back as he continued to take another snag. The girl just sighed as she took her place next to him, grabbing the cigarette out of his hands.
"Don't do this to yourself, Sehun," her earnest tone made him refrain himself from yelling at her. He just shook his head and sighed, ruffling his hair in the process. The girl watched him with a worried expression on her face, the cigarette in between her index and middle finger.
"You...you just don't understand," the male named Sehun trailed off, staring at the view on top of the rooftop. There was a light breeze that made the girl next to him shiver in her tank top and leggings.
"Sehun," she called him, her hand on his shoulder. Her tense expression turned softer, her eyes gentle. "I know it's hard, but you can't do this to yourself."
"What do you know? Your parents are still together! Do you know how it feels to catch your own father with another woman?" Sehun snapped, lashing out harsh words at her. A flash of hurt came across her face. She backed away from him, afraid, but deep down she pitied him. Yes, she didn't know how it feels. Yes, adults make bad decisions sometimes. Yes, she didn't know what she found attractive about Oh Sehun since he was basically a bad-tempered jerk, but she kept going back to him like a drug. Although she's used to his outbursts, she hates how he keeps pushing her away.
"I just wanted to help," she whispered, her voice almost inaudible. Sehun froze, his back towards her. His grip on the rail tightened as he listened to her. "Smoking doesn't solve everything. Don't kill yourself over your father's mistakes. And if it makes you feel better, I'll be here for you."
He said nothing in return and continued to watch the cars pass by on the street. Silence fell upon them as Sehun contemplated the things she said. He finally turned around to apologize to her, but she had left Sehun to himself. Where she was standing, his cigarette laid on the floor.
He walked over to pick up the cigar, his eyes staring at the message Seulgi had left on the paper.
I believe in you.
The end was still lit, the ashes bright orange. Instead of taking a puff, he stubbed it until the smell of tobacco was no longer in the air.
