Just a small idea, enjoy!
The slat was silent, the crow club too. All the dregs in waiting, wondering where to go to. Meanwhile the crew had their hands full, and it all started in the dead of night in the middle of a storm.
Flashback
The alley was crowded, fighting was hard. The last of he Dimelions, and they had come prepared, everyone was focused in their own battles, silver glinting in the rain every time lightning strikes. Jesper was firing when he could see, so he wouldn't be the cause of any members death, who knew what Kaz would do to him if he killed Inej, or vise versa and he wouldn't be able to live with himself if he shot Wylan or even Inej.
The sound of a shot ran through the air, on instinct, Jesper jumped away, feeling the bullet scathe his neck, but no harm done he heard a grunt but, thought it was his own.
Inej leapt over Jesper, burying her knife into the mans chest, "you alright?" She asked him, smiling. "Fine, thanks." Wylan was limping over to them, his hair clinging to his head.
Another bang, everyone turned to see Kaz lower his pistol. He gave them a short curt nod, then stepped out of the blood filled alley, limping toward the crow club. Inej looked at the others, normally Kaz would at least say something to them. "Up for a game at the crow club?" Inej asked, they got the hidden message, Wylan nodded and Jesper actually did want to play a game, so they ran to catch up to Kaz. The rain was drenching them all, as they walked Kaz could feel them all following him, so he sighed and stopped waiting for them. They kept up meaningless banter, normally Kaz would either join in, or make them shut up. He did neither though, he just limped. His limp was heavier than before, Inej mused. She fell in step with him, "hey Kaz, your being quieter than usual." Kaz shrugged, Inej could have sworn he winced, but pushed off as her eyes playing tricks on her. "We're just concerned about you Kaz, seriously." Jesper said, jogging to join them, half dragging Wylan along. Kaz snarled, "It's not your place to worry about my own damn wellbeing. I can take care of myself just fine."
Inej sighed, typical Kaz pushing them away. In her mind, she remembered when he wasn't being typical. I want you. I would come for you, and if I couldn't walk I would crawl to you. Inej sighed, he was hard to understand. They had just been working, they had gone back to usual. Wylan getting together with Jesper. Inej and Kaz just the spider and the bastard, like that was only their identities and thats all they were.
Kaz was swaying slightly, something was definitely wrong with him, but the crow club was close and the slat so she figured they were fine.
Once they got in the slat, Wylan and Jesper were about to leave when Kaz turned from them and Inej saw the red. She signaled Wylan and Jesper to follow Kaz into his study as she did so also.
End of flashback
Kaz was struggling, and swearing. Long lists of swears in many different languages. He was being held (against his will) by Inej and Jesper as they tried to figure out how bad the wound was. They couldn't tell much, just he was bleeding, a lot. A bullet and a knife wound. Both in his chest. "Kaz, were trying to help you." Inej said, speaking calmly soothingly, Kaz eyed her viciously, clearly in pain and anger. "I don't need your *insert colorful language* help!" Wylan was trying to find some pain killers and something to knock Kaz out. They weren't touching his skin, holding him down by his arms.
Wylan finally found what he was looking for, and in a few disastrous minutes, Kaz was out dreaming about killing them all when he woke.
Inej looked at him sadly, he was a fighter, he was raised to be, raised harshly, he just never knew when to stop fighting.
Inej called Nina over, who begrudgingly agreed to help, when she saw the others gathered around with steely faces and the silence she knew it was serious. Kaz had a knife wound that had gone deep, but didn't hit anything important, and the bullet had hit him in the stomach, but he was going to be fine, there was nothing she could do, she had lost her powers. She just helped stitch him up, and took Inej out for waffles, Inej was silent, worrying.
Kaz woke the next day, very pissed off and deadly. He was bed bound, medics orders, Kaz was not exactly a good bed bound person. They had to place a guard, much to Kaz's annoyance. Inej walked in one morning, Kaz was still asleep, this time he actually looked peaceful.
"Kaz?" He gave a long sigh, "dam it Inej, If your going to stick me in a bed for a week straight you should at least let me sleep!" He moaned, rolling over. Inej chuckled, he seemed to be in a ok mood. "Tt, like you deserve it." Inej teased, Kaz had moved his arm over his eyes to block the sunlight. "I don't know what you mean," he stated in false innocence. "Your a horrible patient, you popped your stitches like five times." He shrugged, Inej closed the shade, Kaz kept his arm in place.
Inej was quiet, the room was blanketed with comfortable silence like snow falls upon the ground. "You had a nightmare last night?" Inej mumbled, Jesper had told her about it, it was the second time he popped his stitches, she didn't imagine Kaz wincing. "Night terror" he corrected. "Wha-" "it's a night terror, a memory of something awful, played back, just worse..." Kaz mumbled, voice growing quieter at the end.
Inej nodded, she knew about those, personally. "You gave Jesper a hell of a good scare, he thought the knife hit your heart and you were having a delayed reaction." Inej could imagine Kaz rolling his eyes.
The silence moved in again an this time Inej let it, she would miss him. When she was out in the sea, hunting slavers. Inej fought the thoughts, her mind was made up, she would leave once he was healed. She hadn't told Kaz about this, but she was pretty sure he wouldn't like it.
"Inej.... I'm sorry." Inej thought she imagined the words, her eyes snapped to Kaz, and met his eyes, they were no longer guarded, Inej saw all of his emotions, fears and desires. They never needed to say anything, they didn't now. Inej let her own guard slip, pulling her own walls down, allowing herself to trust Kaz as he did her.
"You should eat something." Inej mumbled, breaking her gaze with Kaz, blushing, it had somehow felt intimate in a way. Kaz shook his head, running his ungloved hand through his bed mused hair. "I'm not hungry." He responded, sheepishly. "Kaz you haven't eaten in 3 days." He only shrugged, "Kaz-" "Inej, I got shot in the stomach, eating isn't easy." He pointed out, eyes finding hers. Inej forced herself to breathe, but it was shaky, he heard it. Inej blushed a bit more, but quickly returned to her normal shade.
"You haven't eaten since we fought you here. It's been too long. You can't just not eat, you need it." He huffed, stretching and then mumbled a 'Im fine' but it got a bit slurred together, he was still under drugs to take away the pain. "Just eat Kaz, for me, okay?" He made a unhappy sigh, but nodded. Inej smirked as she flung the shades open, causing Kaz to hiss and swear a bit more. "You should be walking around soon, I can't let you sleep in, besides you need some sun, there isn't enough in this place." Inej said, smirking sassily.
He turned into a vampire recently with this injury, Kaz scowled at Inej, eyes squinting against the harsh light that had suddenly opened. Inej walked off, letting Kaz get up in his own time, knowing he would get up.
