6 Vampire..

"But... Scarlet, I'm a vampire."

I'm a vampire... A vampire... Vampire.

But Scarlet, I'm a vampire.

Vampire..........................

My head started to spin as his words repeatedly whirred through my brain.

A vampire?

My feet gave way and I felt my knees buckle. A strong pair of arms caught me almost instantly.

"I... I can stand..." I said realizing how stupid I must have looked and sounded. I was in his flipping arms! "...Sorry!"

He chuckled and held me tighter, but gently.

"At least you didn't run away, my dear."

A shiver ran through me as his velvety voice rang in my ears.

Damn.

Well that's true, I didn't run.

But maybe because I couldn't keep my balance.

"I won't run."

He looked guilty. He was so sure that I would run, he pleaded with his eyes. He wanted me to stay. He couldn't bare me running, although he knew he was going to catch me anyways with his vampire strengths. This was all too clear on his beautiful pale face.

"I won't ... run," I whispered, looking into his startling eyes. He studied me for a moment, and then hesitantly released my feet to the floor, and I straightened up.

He took my hand and guided my back to the picnic. He seated me and sat right across, never taking his eyes off me as we silently ate the brilliant food inside of the basket.

I wasn't one to be scared of anyone or anything, but his eyes that never glanced away from me was making me quite nervous.

"Y-You... you can s-stop ... staring at me," I said gazing at my hands while his stare remained. "I said I wouldn't run away."

He sighed and looked very vulnerable. He was fidgeting his hands while looking down.

I felt awkward staring at him but I couldn't help it. Didn't he trust me?

He slowly turned his gaze to me, looking up at me through his dark eyelashes.

I felt a blush creep up my neck to my cheeks and he smiled.

A thought dawned on me just then...

I can't be falling for him... or even be staying here! Not that he gave me much of a choice, but I had to at least try to get away from him! And he hasn't even explained anything to me! About everything that's going on and all... As much as I loved the food, I had to get away from him.

"Excuse me," I whispered, barely audible.

I quickly got up and was speed walking back to the castle. No – in whatever way I was going, just in need of getting away from him. My speed walk turned into a jog to a run.

I had to get away.

I ran a few meters before steel hard gripped hand grabbed my wrist, and Austin pulled me close to him.

I tried to avoid his gaze for our faces were inches apart. He looked at me fiercely.

He slowly brought my chin up and forced me to look up at him. When I looked into his eyes, they were not angry – they were guilty.

"You said you wouldn't run."

His voice was silent and velvety.

I didn't respond, and I saw his eyes linger to my lips.

Was there something there? Or did he want to kiss me ...?

I kept still, and focused. I realized my lips were quivering – like a child before they bawled their eyes out.

I raspy gasp escaped my throat before the tears were coming and I was sobbing.

Why me? Why did I get chosen to be here? Why? .........

His strong arms pulled me to him and he hugged me tight. His comfort made me feel better when it shouldn't have. I don't want this life.

I don't want this castle.

I don't want a queen and king.

And ... I didn't want...

Austin.

For he had changed my life, making everything so much more confusing for me.

Why?

Why me?

And he hasn't even explained himself.

I realized my sobs had stopped and he let go of my arms and held my hands.

"Please Scarlet..." He pleaded. "Stay... I can make you happy here..." He was guilty, desperate, and I didn't know why, but I was bound to find out.

"Tell me, then. Tell me everything."

He gulped and nodded, gold eyes shining, looking oh-so vulnerable. "As you wish, my dear."
