"Thank goodness you all are alright!" She says with a relieved tone. Rushing over to hug my father as well. I just give a small smile, the earlier events still fresh in my mind.
After hugging my father, my mother rushes back over to me, ready to take me in her arms.
Though, she never did.
Well, not in the present, that is.
Right before her arms wrap around me, she fades. They all fade. And I'm once again gazing at the old and abandoned castle. Multiple things that had been tossed around, lying on the floor, as they have been for the past 6 years.
I can't stop the tears from building up as my eyes begin to water. If only we could have found a better solution...If only that wretched Orc chief had wanted to make a deal...
That day...That horrid day...Thousands died.
Hundreds of my people, and hundreds of theirs.
After our little meeting, my father had decided to attempt to reason with the chief. He had brought along two of our second best guards. Mason and Timothy were assigned to guard us.
The chief had plunged a sword straight through my father's chest, and I saw it all from the window. I remember the tears that had blurred my vision.
Soon after that, the chief had came for us. Once I had told my mother about this, she wept as well. But, she still jumped up and hurried to make sure we were safe. She had done something that I would soon come to regret.
In a fit of rage, she had grabbed her bow and ran out the door. Of course, she had made sure we would be alright before she went. Despite how hard we tried to stop her, she still ran out to avenge her husband, my father. She had succeeded in killing the chief, the bow piercing straight through his neck, the poison that was on the tip of the arrow spreading through his system. Within minutes, he was dead.
However, the second in command had rushed forward and killed my mother.
My parents...Both of them no more...
It was my time for action, without my parents, I was the next in line to take command. And that was exactly what I had planned to do. I wasn't going to go confront the enemy, unlike my parents. I was going to make sure my siblings were alright. Then, I would do the same with my people.
If only things had went according to plan.
My younger sister, Arianna, had became frightened at that point. She had decided that the best way to survive was to run out deeper into the forest.
She dashed out the door as my brother followed, trying to get her to come back. Mason and Timothy couldn't follow, they had to guard...Me. As next in line for the throne, I was their top priority. Though, another set of our best guards went after them.
I watched from the window as both of my siblings were captured and taken away.
Finally, after hours of battle, the enemy had been wiped out. However, so was our army.
Once we had came out of hiding, Mason and Timothy by my side, we had seen the resulting damage. Timothy was right, barely 1/3 of our population was left. And the buildings...Way too destroyed to be rebuilt.
We had decided to permanently head to the trees until we could fix what had been done...If we ever could.
We had built huts in the trees, like our old ones, except we were farther out in the forest. It would be harder to find us all.
Within a year, I had learned that my darling brother and sister had been killed...Both of them were hanged by the enemy's hands. I would've charged out what little army I had made to go avenge them, but the humans had taken care of that.
Turns out that a war had happened between the Orcs from the other kingdom and the humans from our kingdom. The humans had won.
Soon after this, I had found someone that I would have never expected to come across ever again.
Milly.
That's right, the little girl I had met briefly.
She had told me about how her family was killed in front of her. Her older sister, Janice, had told her to run off to find me.
After learning this, I made it my top priority to take care of this girl. I took care of her for about three years.
Sadly...She had died from a spreading disease.
After that, my new priority had been to learn.
Learn. Learn. Learn.
I had read through multiple books until I knew what to do with even the worst diseases and sicknesses.
A sad way to learn, truly.
I shake my head as I shake away the memories with it. I give the old castle one last glance before pulling up my hood and rushing out.
My feet run back over to the area I now call home.
Now that I think about it...I never continued on with the planned ceremony. I was never crowned queen...I suppose in a way...I don't want to. The memories...They'd constantly come back, more so than now.
It's been 6 years since that disaster.
I want to forget it. I want to forget it all.
Yet, I can't...So, I'll continue on. I'll keep the mask of peace and content on my face until I can't do so anymore.
My feet slow to a stop as I see a man that seemed to have the literal image of nature with his green hair and outfit. He seems to hear my footsteps as he turns around, I notice that his eyes are green as well.
"Oh, hello there! I'm Verndrius! You, uh...Wouldn't happen to know where I am or how I got here, do you?"
This.
This is where my story truly began.
