"Why so formal? I'm your father for goodness sake! And, it's alright for you to wander, dear. Just...Tell somebody before you go." I roll my eyes, playfully of course. My smile continuing to occupy my lips.
"Yes, yes father. Why so worried," I use the same tone as he had done, "I'm 799 years old for goodness sake! Nothing wretched could possibly happen!" He chuckles as he sighs contently, eyes seeming to glance behind me briefly. I dismiss it, not really thinking much of it.
If only I did.
That. Is where it all went wrong.
An arrow narrowly missed my head as it grazes a few strands of my hair as I watch it go by. My eyes widen as I immediately duck down, my father doing the same.
Screams fill the air as my father quickly does something between a run and a crouch, waving his hand to signal me to follow along.
"Danielle, hurry! To the castle!"
I listen to his words, obeying his commands as I hear the sirens engulf the screams. Hundreds of Elven soldiers rush past us as they hurriedly ran into battle with whoever our enemy was.
I briefly glance back, only to see an army of hundreds covered in black rushing forward, slaughtering my people. I fight back the tears as I hear the people I grew up with, the ones I've come to love, get sliced down to nothing but lifeless carcasses.
My head snaps forward again, just in time to see Mason and Timothy, our best warriors, rush towards us. They briefly check for wounds before each of them go onto one side of my father and I.
"King Aaron, princess Danielle! This way! It's too crowded over here, the enemy will slaughter you both as well if we stay!" I hear Mason, the one on my side, yell out over the screams and sirens to the both of us.
My father and I reluctantly agree.
Within a few minutes, we're inside the castle as we slam the door shut.
"Is there a safe shelter for the citizens to go to?" I quickly speak up, a bit out of breath from running the long distance.
"Yes, we have three of them opened. However..." Timothy trails off as his eyes look away, a sorrowful look on them.
"Yes, what?" I urge on, nervousness showing through my voice.
"With how many people are getting slaughtered down...By the time this is over...We'll barely have 1/3 of our original population."
My mouth falls agape as I am unable to speak. My eyes flicker from one place to the next, however continuing to stare at the ground.
"K-King Aaron...?" I hear Mason speak up. Only then am I taken out of my shocked state. I look over to see that my father is in no better shape, his expression matching my previous one.
"Father...? What...What shall we do...?" I speak up as well, trying to break him from his state. It works. His eyes flicker towards us as he quickly clears his throat, regaining his posture.
"Keep the shelters open. Take in as many people as we can. Have we identified the enemy?"
"Yes, sir. We believe that the enemy are from the southern Orc tribe, one kingdom over. The...Dorivinia(Meh, random name) kingdom, if I recall it's name correctly..." My father's eyes narrow at the name.
"I see...Why are they in this kingdom..." My father mumbles out, stroking his long white beard, "Alright. I'll see what I can do to fix the matter. Now, where are Arianna, James, and Melody?"
As if on cue, the rest of my family rush down the stairs. Arianna, my younger sister, leaping into our father's arms as my younger brother, James, watches from a slight distance. Though, we can see relief in his eyes. My mother, Melody, rushes forward to inspect me. Eyes quickly scanning over me to make sure I was alright as she sighed in relief.
