Finding You

Chapter~~19

            “Lucas are you alright? You look sickly pale and your eyes are so bloodshot.” I walked in the house.

            “I know. This is what happens when my Myx is away from me for so long. Is everything ready for the switch?”

            “Yes. Everything is prepared.”

            “Then this is goodbye officer Menton.”

            “You aren’t going to die are you?”

            “No but I do not think I will run into you after this night.”

            I left the governor’s house and drove to the park. I had the driver park two blocks away. If I was stronger I would not even need to be driven. I waited in the car and by the time midnight arrived I thought I was going to die. My head was pounding and I felt dizzy. At midnight I got out of the car and called my wings. It felt wonderful to have them out but as soon as they were I almost collapsed. It took a lot of energy just to summon them, I do not know how I am going to be able to fly and still have the ability to rescue Navia. I collected my strength and flew into the sky. It was a cloudy night so I would most likely go unnoticed.

            I hovered over the concession stand where the governor stood waiting. I saw a man walk out from the darkness and join the governor. He was a round man with brown hair. They talked and I did not try to listen, I could not waste the energy on it. The governor gave the man the briefcase. The man opened it and scanned the inside. The man then took out a gun from his back pocket. He shot the governor and ran away. Part of me wanted to fly to the governor and drain him but I ignored the impulse and followed the man. He jumped into a blue car and drove off.

            I followed him and after thirty minutes of following he stopped at a car wash and got out. He had a hold of the briefcase when he entered. I waited a few minutes and two men exited. The new man was very skinny with black hair. Each one was carrying a briefcase. They headed off in different directions. Quickly I sniffed the air and searched for the governor’s scent. I followed the new man. He got into a black minivan and drove away. I followed him for another thirty minutes before he stopped.

            It was at an old publishing factory that was closed years ago. The skinny man walked in and again I waited. There was a brief up rise of cheers and shouting, and then they quieted down. I took a hard sniff of the air and there I found a small hint of roses. Navia is here. My fangs descended. I was about to charge in when I thought. I dialed officer Menton’s number and told him where I was and where he could find Angela. I charged in crashing through a wall. Crashing through the wall hurt terribly but I was too angry to care.

            There were six men in the room. I went after them quickly before they could arm themselves. I grabbed two of them by the backs of their shirts and threw them against the wall. I was able to grab one more person before they armed themselves. They immediately fired at me. I was still fast enough to doge their bullets. In the process of dodging their bullets I made my way towards them. I took them out one by one. The last one tried to fight me but it was a pathetic attempt. I left him conscious. He was a short a man with brown eyes. He had a very strong jaw with stubble protruding from it. He was on the floor crawling away from me.

            I flashed in front of him and picked him up by his shirt. “Where is she?” I demanded. I glared at him.

            “Who?” he asked, his voice shaking. He reeked of alcohol and fear. I growled at him as a warning not to play around with me.
