“I can remedy part of that.” I picked her up and carried her in my arms to the kitchen. I sat her down on top the counter. I went to the refrigerator and picked out a bowl of grapes. I handed it to her and she began picking at them. I stood in front of her rubbing her leg. “Do you not like grapes?” I asked.
“No I do. I was just noticing that every time you give me food it’s fruit.”
“I thought you liked fruit.”
“I do, it’s my favorite” she defended. “But it’s just a little odd. I mean for a dinner a week ago I asked you what you thought I should have and you said a pomegranate. I’m beginning to think that you have an obsession with fruit.”
“No it is not that I have an obsession with it. Fruit was my favorite food when I used to eat food.” Navia gave me an odd look and I felt curiosity rise in her.
“Lucas I have been meaning to ask you something, but I always get distracted.” She took a deep breath. “How long have you been alive?” she said in a very small voice.
Ah, I was wondering when she would ask me. “I am five thousand years old” I stated.
Her eyes opened wide. “Wow!” she ate some grapes and just stared at me. I wondered what was going through her mind right then.
She finished the bowl of grapes and set it on the counter next to her. She jumped down and her bare feet made a slapping noise when they hit the floor. I grabbed her hand and intertwined my fingers in hers. I kissed the back of her hand. She smiled at me and pulled me forward. She led me up the stairs and down the hall. I did not think she knew where she was going. She stopped at the door to a ballroom and pushed it open. She slowly entered and looked around. There was an intricate and colorful design coving the walls.
I have not been in this room since September 10 1887. I held a party for the all the citizens that surrounded my mansion. I needed a new person to feed off of and that was the perfect way to see the whole selection. I picked out a woman of the age of 20. She had blonde hair and chocolate brown eyes. The town folk looked down at her and called her a whore. But I saw no whore. I saw a woman with a kind nature, and a beautiful soul. She stayed with me for three weeks before I sent her away. The poor thing was devastated and left town. I wonder what happened to her.
Navia pulled me further into the room so we were in the middle of the room.
“Do you know how to slow dance lover?” I asked curious.
“Not really, I mean I’m not sure.” I chuckled, and smile at her.
“I will put my hands on your hips” I put my hands on her hips and pulled her close to me “and now you will put your hands on my shoulders.” She did what I said. “Now I am going to slowly move us back and forth.” We dance for some time in silence.
“There’s no music” she said unsure. I looked down at her and continued to move us back and forth.
“I do not think we need music. We have each other and together we make an orchestra.” She looked at me and her eyes looked so warm they could melt ice. Navia laid her head on my chest and for a while we danced happy in each other’s embrace. I stopped dancing and Navia looked up at me confused.
“I think we should rest.” Navia nodded and sat down on the floor. “I meant in a bed.”
“Oh” she said and giggled. Navia got up from the floor and followed me to the master bedroom where we spent most of our time. Navia jumped on the bed and plopped down with her face in the covers. I sat down and laid my head down on a pillow. She crawled over to me and laid down. She began to trail a finger up and down my arm. Her touch sent electricity up my arm and through my body.
