Finding You

Chapter ~~12

“Navia I cannot. I told you I do not feel safe enough to sleep.”

“But I promise you, you are. Even if she does attack Lucas will feel I’m in danger and stop her before she can even touch you.” He looked in my eyes and he was so scared. “I promise, I’ll protect you.” He nodded his head. I led him over to the bed and he reluctantly laid down. He laid there for a minute and then he closed his eyes. His body became still, and I smiled.

I sat down on the bed and I just thought to myself. Was that why he treated everything like a joke? Was he so scared about Camille killing him that he treated everything with indifference? Poor Caleb, he didn’t deserve this. Whoever this Camille is she sounds terrible. I don’t care what someone says about you, you don’t hunt them and try to kill them.

The door opened and Lucas peeked his head in. I smiled at him and he smiled back. I had a feeling he listened to my conversation with Caleb. I wasn’t mad, at least I wouldn’t have to repeat the story. He came inside and he walked over to me. He kissed my forehead and then sat next to me.

“I take it you ease dropped on our conversation” I whispered.

“How could I not?” he asked. “I felt your stress from the situation and I had to make sure you were okay.” He was silent and he just looked at me with an admiring look. “What you did for Caleb was magnificent. I had no idea he was that scared of Camille.”

“You’ll protect him right?”

“Of course, he is my dearest friend. I would not let some psychotic Demon kill him.” I smiled and leaned over to kiss him. With just one brush of our lips against each other my whole body was warm. Lucas took me and held me in his lap, my back to his chest. He whispered praise into my ear and he trailed a finger up and down my bare arm. I was so content that I actually fell asleep in his arms.

I woke up later. It was dark and Lucas was lying next to me asleep. I had this weird feeling of being watched and I opened my eyes. Outside of the window there was a woman staring at us. She had blonde hair that was blowing in the wind. Her yellow eyes stared at me furious. She barred her teeth at me.

“Lucas” I called. The room was silent. “Lucas” I shouted. I felt his back against mine and then he shook with a growl.

Camille crashed through the window. Lucas leapt up and caught her before she even got close to us. Caleb was awake now and he looked at the woman scared. Lucas caught Camille by the back her neck and she was hissing and snarling with fury. She was like a mad dog, completely insane with only her anger to push her. She thrashed but Lucas only squeezed tighter and it made her cry out. She eventually stopped.

“Camille, I am sorry.” Caleb’s voice broke the tense silence. “I am sorry for what I said and what I called you. I was out of line.” Camille looked at Caleb for a minute and I thought I saw her smile at him.

I was wrong because she flipped and Lucas lost control of her neck. She bounced around the room and I couldn’t see where she was going. Caleb and Lucas’ heads were spinning easily keeping track of her. She stopped on the ceiling corner and snarled at us. Then she lunged again and this time Caleb lunged. They crashed in air and Caleb went flying across the room and Camille to the other. Lucas jumped on her and held her hand behind her back.  

“Camille stop this” Lucas commanded. “Your hunt is done.” She growled at him in response.

“Why are you still trying to kill him? He apologized.” I don’t know why but I had stood up and I was furious with her. “Does that mean nothing to you?”

“His apology is shit to me” she hissed. “I will not stop until I hold his heart in my hand.”

“Why are you such a bitch?” I shouted. I was fuming and I couldn’t understand her. “Why are you so angry? What did he do for you to chase him for however long and to hold such a grudge against him?”
