Caleb smiled at me and his teeth looked sharp. “It is nice to meet you Navia. It is good that someone is taking care of him.”

“What do you mean by that?” I asked.

“I only meant that I have known Lucas for a long time and he not meant to live by himself.”

“Shut up Caleb” Lucas said. I was a bit confused by what Caleb said. “Come this way Caleb, there is blood in the Kitchen.” Lucas turned and led us to the kitchen. As we walked I looked back at Caleb. He smiled at me and while he was looking at me he said “By in the kitchen you mean bagged blood don’t you? You know I prefer fresh.” His eyes pierced mine and I shivered.

In the kitchen Lucas pulled out a bag of blood from a compartment in the refrigerator that I didn’t even know was there. He put it in a glass and slid the glass to Caleb. He just looked at it and one eyebrow raised. He picked up the glass and looked at it like now that it was closer he could see it better.

“How do you drink this?” he asked. “It is so cold…so sterile.” He looked at me and then at Lucas. “You don’t do you? I bet you get fresh from her.” He put down the glass and grabbed my chin. He moved my head from side to side. Lucas grabbed his wrist and pulled his hand away from me.

“Do not touch. Or I will remove your hand.”

Caleb smiled at me not at all remorseful. “Sorry dear but sometimes I cannot help myself.” He picked up the glass and he drank down the blood. I watched him as he drank the cut on his cheek healed. It was amazing to watch. He finished it and the only thing lift was a red coat of blood on the glass.

I was hypnotized by it and I took a step closer to him. He looked me in the eyes and the corner of his mouth came up. Quickly I slashed my thumb over his other cheek and I cut him. He didn’t even flinch, he just stared at me. It immediately started healing. I watched again hypnotized. “You are beautiful aren’t you?” He started to lean down and I stepped back. So quick I couldn’t even see it Lucas punched him. Caleb stepped back and he held his face. Lucas growled, and his chest rumbled against my back. Caleb looked up and his nose was broken and his cheek was broken.

“Now Lucas I do not think you had to hit me that hard.” Caleb grabbed his nose and he twisted it back with a pop. The sound made me cringe. He crinkled his nose a few times and then looked at me. “I am sorry Navia. I got caught in your radiant beauty.” Lucas growled again.

“Caleb, you know I tolerate all of your tom-foolery but I will not let you touch her. You know that.”

“Yes Lucas I am very much aware.” We were all silent for a while. Caleb took a couple steps back and he leaned against a counter. “Before I forget I need to tell you something. It is why I originally came here.” I heard Lucas take a deep breath and then he wrapped his arm around me and pulled me closer to him. I relaxed into his arms but kept a close eye on Caleb. “You remember Victor correct?” That name struck a chord. I wondered if it was the same Victor that I met, back at the institute.

“Victor Istov?” Caleb nodded his head. “Yes I remember him.” Yes that was the Victor I met.

“Well I ran into him last week. He bonded to a girl named Sara.”

“Sara!” I jumped out of Lucas’ arms I was so excited. “Does she have brown hair and brown eyes and is really skinny?” Caleb looked amused with my reaction.

“Yes that is her. This message is for you. Well she says hi and says she misses you.” Caleb laughed.

“Is that the only reason you came here?” Lucas asked.

“I was not even going to deliver the message until she said that the girl was bonded to you. I missed you my old friend.”

“Where are they?” I asked interrupting them. Caleb looked at me confused. “Victor and Sara. Where were they?”
