I must have passed this picture a thousand times.

I actually felt okay. I lifted the picture out of the box. Beneath that there was my father’s wallet. I looked inside to find a wallet size photo of the family and a picture of Vick and me as infants. I took the pictures out of his wallet and put them in my pocket. There were more things in the box and I enjoyed seeing the reminders of my old life. Once I saw them all I put them back in the box. I looked to Lucas, who was watching me with careful eyes.

“Thank you” I said as a tear ran down my cheek. He smiled at me.

Lucas and I then moved all the boxes from my room to a truck in the institute’s driveway. Once my room was cleared and I said my final goodbyes to Sara we left. It was a five hour drive and I slept through most of it. Lucas woke me telling me we had arrived. I opened my eyes to see Lucas looking down at me. My head was lying on his lap. I sat up and looked out the window. We were in front of a picturesque mansion.

I’ve never seen a house this big. The outside was a cream color, and there were huge double doors just off to the side. There were beautiful flowers surrounding the house, and a fountain next to the door. The car door opened and I slid out with Lucas right behind me.

“This shall be our home for right now.”

“This is your house?” I said not believing.

“It is one of them” he stated.

“Only one? How many do you have?”

“Including this one I have four. Let me show you around.” He held my hand and took me inside.

The inside was even more beautiful. It looked like a ball would be held here. It almost looked Victorian, it was so proper. I felt like I should have been wearing a dress just to enter that place. There was a staircase to my right, and a chandelier hanging from the ceiling. The rest of the room was empty space with the exception of a few doors against the wall, a few small tables and a couple lamps.

“Come this way.” He led through the door that was hidden behind the stair case. “This is the shortest way to the kitchen.”

He was leading me through what looked like a hidden hallway. We came out in a kitchen that looked like it belonged in a five star restaurant. The refrigerator itself took up half of a wall. Then there were two stoves and many marble counter tops. Cabinets were everywhere.

 “You live here?”

“Well technically I have not lived here since 1904. I lived here for ten years, then I wanted to travel” he said in a light voice. How old is Lucas? I don’t want to ask him. He seems so happy here. “You have a question?”

“No” I said quickly. He looked at me doubtful. “I do but it can wait until later.”

“Okay let me show you the rest of the house.” He showed me the whole house.

It took us an hour to see every room, but we did it. He showed me the master bedroom. It was amazing. There was a king size bed and chandelier hanging from the ceiling. It had its own private bathroom that was the size of a regular room. There was a walk in closet that was more like a mini hallway. The whole house was beautiful. I was tired after everything and laid down on the master bed. Lucas crawled into bed next to me. He pulled me next to him. I rested my head on his chest and fell asleep.
