“Yes just Navia” Claude repeated. He had not figured it out yet. “Why are we wasting time talking? We need to gather Demons and start looking for her.” I stayed quiet.
“You and Lucas are to go find her. I expect calls to know your progress.” I can see why she is nicknamed the fiery iceberg. Her hair is bright like fire but Jessica is colder than ice.
“Just the two of us?” Claude said starting to get it. Jessica looked confused. She did not count on how naïve Claude was. “We need more Demons that just the two of us.
“I cannot afford to send anymore Demons out than you two.”
“Lucas,” Claude turned to me “she must obey you, demand she assign more Demons to help.” I opened my mouth to respond but was rudely interrupted by Jessica.
“Unfortunately for you, in this one matter I hold greater authority. The safety of all the Myxs comes first, so as issued by the queen. Issues pertaining to the school in question are decided by the dean of that school. So what I say is final and done.” I heard the smug smile in her voice. My temper flared.
I flashed over to her, picked her up by her neck, and slammed her against the wall. I drew down my fangs and leaned down so I was right in her face.
“Just because your word is final on this one point, do not defy your ranking and think you hold dominance over me.” A growl rose from the back of my throat. “Your power is a grain of salt compared to mine. Remember your place youngling.” She nodded. I released her and began to leave. “Come Claude we have already wasted too much time.”
The institute was surrounded by a small city and four towns. If Navia left this morning she could be past those towns by now. She could be anywhere alone and unprotected. We flew north towards the city. It took us half an hour to fly to the city. There was a loud buzz coming from the city and a subtle glow from all the lights. We landed a top a large building.
Where could Navia be? Apparently she has been missing all day. Was I the last one to see her?
“How are we to find her?” Claude asked. It is funny, I was just thinking the same exact thing. “It’ will take all night to search the whole city by ourselves.”
“But that is what we shall do. We must for Navia’s safety. Concentrate on her scent. Do not look with your eyes, but look for her scent. If she has been here recently her scent should still be here. You search that half of the city” I pointed to the left “and I will search this half” I pointed to the right. “If you find her call me. In four hours if we do not find anything we will meet back here.” Claude nodded and flew off.
I cannot help but worry about Navia. She is stronger than a human but she is still very fragile. She can get hurt very easily. I must find her and protect her from all the dangers that lye in wake, waiting to strike. The more I thought about what might be out there the more worked up I became. I took off to the outer limits of the city and began my search. As I thought about all the things that could hurt her, I could not stop myself from thinking that maybe I was the one to hurt Navia the most.
I listened, looked, and smelled for any trace of Navia as I flew over the city. After four hours of searching I had nothing. Not even the slightest hint that Navia had been here. I returned to the top of the building where Claude was waiting. I landed next to him.
