“Lucas if we’re going to talk, you’ve got to keep your hands to yourself” she said in a firm tone.

“Okay I will. All you had to do was say so.” I held my hands up in surrender.

“Why are you sitting with Sandra?” She looked angry. I thought I saw a hint of jealousy too.

“We were merely talking. And what is it to you. You are with Claude, the handsome French Demon.” Her eyes saddened. She looked down at the ground. Damn. I did it again. “Oh Navia, I’m so sorry for making you feel bad.” I pulled her into a hug. She pushed me away. She is angry at me and has every right to be.

“You said you were going to keep your hands to yourself.” She pointed out in a rough voice. She sounded like she was about to cry. I lifted her face so I could see her beautiful pools of green. Her eyes were glossy and there was a tear forming in the corner of her eye. “Stop, don’t. I know you’re sorry, but I brought this on myself.” The tear escaped and ran down her cheek. I brushed it away with my thumb and I brought my face down to hers. When my lips got close to her she pushed me away. Tears were streaming down her face by this point. She ran away from me and into the girl’s bathroom that was near.

I knocked on the door and called “Do you want me to go get Claude?” She did not answer but I heard her sobs. Quickly I went back into the dining hall and went right over to Claude. I noticed that many people were watching me. “Claude” I called once I was near enough. He turned immediately. Once he saw it was me he rose from his seat and bowed to me. “Come with me.” I snatched a hold of his shirt and raced out the door. Every pair of eyes was on me now. Once out the doors I told him about Navia. He ran to the bathroom and rushed inside. Moments later he exited with her in his arms. He gave me an angry look and then walked away.

Damn it! Things with Navia could not have gone any worse. The day passed and so did the weekend. I had not seen Navia since that Friday. The next week started and I had a few more classes with Navia. She avoided me and I did not try to talk with her. We only exchanged longing glances. The week passed. Everything became a bore until the Wednesday of the next week. Classes were over and I was sitting in the combat arena against the wall thinking when a girl hesitantly walked over to me. She was the girl that always hangs around Navia. She had brown hair, hazel eyes and no figure to speak of. Once she was close I saw into her eyes, and the fear and uncertainty filling them.

“Umm, Lucas” she said in a small voice “I know you don’t know me and you probably don’t care but I was wondering if maybe I could talk to you.” She is so unsure. Am I that frightening?

“Yes my dear. Sit next to me.” She obeyed and sat next to me.

“Lucas my name is Sara and I’m Navia’s roommate. She told me a little bit about you two and she’s hurting.” I looked over to her. The concern for her friend is evident. “I know she’s with Claude but I know she wants to be with you. She won’t admit it but she does.” How extraordinary.

“What do you want me to do?”

“I don’t know woo her, sweep her off her feet. Do whatever you did before when you first met.”

“It is not that easy. What we had before was that of chance and time.”

“I think she loves you.” She does? I looked over at her hopeful. “And you love her too, don’t you?”
