“I’m sorry.” His fangs glistened.

I couldn’t talk to him so I just shook my head. I turned and faced the sun. I watched as slowly the sun rose and illuminated the sky. The sky was light orange with splashes of pink. The trees behind the institute seemed to blaze. I felt movement next to me. It was probably just Claude so I paid him no attention and continued watching the sun. Once the sun had risen fully over the horizon I turned to Claude.

“Your fangs” I began but stopped unsure. What do I want to ask him?

“I did not mean for them to extend.” I wasn’t angry or even scared, I was just confused.

“Your fangs coming down, does that mean that you want to drink my blood?” I can’t believe I’m talking to someone about drinking my blood.

“When a Demon’s fangs come down it can only be for a few reasons. 1 there is blood near 2 a Demon is very angry or 3 a Demon is aroused.” My cheeks warmed. Claude refused to look at me. He isn’t acting like the self-assured guy like he usually acts like. I looked to side.

“Which one did you…” I groped my mind searching for the right words “...feel for your fangs to extend?” I can’t even look in his direction.

“I felt your pulse beating against me, and I smelled your blood.” I noticed that his fangs were still down. “You smelled sweeter than sugar, and your skin felt softer than the lightest caress.” The way he said caress sent a shiver through me. “But you are also very beautiful. It felt amazing to have you pressed against me” his voice was smooth and wrapped around me like a silk shawl. “But I am still very sorry for my fangs extending like that. I should have had better control of myself.”

“It’s okay, just don’t let it happen again.”

            “I will not.”

“Will you get me off this roof now?” I was ready to put my feet on the ground.

In response Claude opened his arms. I went into his embrace and wrapped my arms around him. He returned the favor and wrapped his arms around me. I felt a little awkward wrapped in his arms after what just happened but Claude was my way off the roof since there was no door. He walked over to the edge and jumped. I love the feeling of the wind whipping my hair in every direction. It must be a hundred foot fall to the ground. Claude landed gracefully on his feet. He let me go, and I took a couple steps back. I inspected his teeth and to my relief they were normal. I felt even better. We smiled at each other.

“What time is it now?” I asked. He pulled out his phone.

            “It is seven thirty.”

“I have to go back to my dorm.”

“I understand. I hope I have a chance to have breakfast with you again.” He grabbed my hand and lightly kissed the back of it. “Until next we meet.” I stared into Claude’s eyes. I couldn’t look away, it was like I was under his spell. I felt nothing but Claude’s touch. No confusion, no fear. My body was warm all over and completely at ease. Claude moved so he was slightly pressed against me. Slowly he leaned down. At first his lips barely even touched mine. He was being hesitant. Probably waiting for me to change my mind. To let him know I wasn’t changing anything I kissed him. His lips were quick to respond. Claude was the one to pull away and look at me. I smiled at him.

“Does this mean?” he asked. I nodded.

Claude’s eyes lit up and the most amazing smile lit his lips. In a flash he picked me up and kissed me. I wrapped my legs around his waist. He kissed me with everything he had. His lips were fast and urgent, trying to open my lips. I pulled away before things went too far. Claude didn’t quite get the hint and continued kissing down my neck. It felt amazing, and everything inside of me was telling to forget everything and continue on with Claude. I lightly pushed at Claude’s chest telling him to stop. He got the hint and stopped. He looked at me his eyes blazing with warmth. He smiled and I could see that his fangs were down.

“Sorry, I just got really excited.”

“I can see that.” I brushed my finger down one of his fangs. He smiled wickedly at me.  “So we’re together like a together couple.”

“Yes beautiful. I shall cherish you and everything about you for eternity.” I gave him a kiss.

“Please put me down.” Claude obeyed and gently put me down on my feet.

After that we went to a quiet place and talked. I left him around ten and went back to my dorm. Sara was in the lounge doing homework. At first we just made small talk, but I eventually told her about some of what happened this morning. She was ecstatic to hear that I was with Claude.

Weeks passed, and I began to feel more comfortable in this strange place. I had a regular routine. Monday through Friday I had classes and Saturday and Sunday I hung out with my friends and Claude. Thing were going well for a while. But in the last week of November everything changed.

It was a Thursday and the whole school was gathered in the auditorium. We were gathered to talk about the rest of the year’s activities, and to properly introduce Professor Marsden as our dean. They had canceled all classes for the day. Once everything was said and done we were allowed to spend the rest of the day however we liked. I sat in the middle in the right section of seats. Zoey and Sara sat next to me. I wasn’t sure where Tiffany was. She has barely talked to me the last couple weeks. I spotted Claude seated across from me in the left section of seats. The new dean, Professor Marsden was at the podium on stage talking. Suddenly all my muscles tensed, like they were cramping up. My head was pounding, and my vision blurred. I was in excruciating pain.

It all happened in a couple seconds and then passed. My head still ached but the rest of my body was fine. The pain in my head didn’t go away so much as it merely eased in intensity. It was just there as some sort of a reminder. A reminder that something was coming. I looked around the room to see if anything had changed or something was out of place. The room was dead silent. Every Demon was staring at the door expectant, and serious. I turned and looked at the door as well. As the seconds ticked by the pressure in my head got greater and greater until it became painful again. Despite this increasing pressure, warmth spread through me. My body was tense and rigid but my mind was calm. Slowly the door opened and revealed Lucas standing outside of them.
