I looked around the bathroom, I couldn’t help but be curious. The day passed in a blur and before I knew it, it was dark out. I felt exhausted from my day’s journey. I went back into my room and collapsed onto my bed. My body was thankful to rest. Though I was exhausted I didn’t instantly fall asleep. I didn’t feel comfortable. My body knew that this wasn’t my normal place to sleep. Slowly I fell asleep.
I woke up the next morning in a daze. When I first opened my eyes I thought I was still at the hospital. I turned over expecting to see Lucas lying next to me. But he wasn’t there. I felt as though someone had punched me in the stomach. I felt the tears start to spill over. This is my punishment for surviving the fire. I should have died with my family. I cried for a while but eventually made myself stop.
It dawned on me that I had to be ready for the driver. I searched my room for a clock but couldn’t find one. I got out of bed, ran out the door and into the lounge on the other side. There on the wall hung a simple black and white clock. It was just after nine o’clock.
“What’s your hurry?” Sara asked. In my haste I hadn’t notice that Sara was sprawled out on the couch reading a book. Sara had a big grin on her face.
“Nothing I just needed to know the time.” Something occurred to me. “Shouldn’t you be in class?” Doesn’t school usually start around eight or nine?
“I could ask the same thing about you.” Her smile got bigger. She put her book down on the coffee table in front of her. “I’m just kidding. Today I don’t have class until two.” The look on my face must have given away my confusion because she giggled. “Here you have classes at different times. You just have to show up at your class.” Sara was wearing blue and green stripped pajama bottoms and a white tank top. I had fallen asleep in my jeans and shirt from yesterday.
“Oh” I said not quite understanding.
“So do you start your classes today?”
“No I have to go somewhere today.” In my mind I started making excuses for the inevitable question ‘Why?’
“Cool. I hope you have fun.” She just looked at me. She didn’t even ask me one question. I can’t believe it.
Though I liked it that Sara didn’t ask why, I found it a little odd that she didn’t. Anyone else would ask me where I was going. Sara seemed the kind of person that didn’t try to get in your business. I liked that about Sara. I think I’m going to get along with Sara.
“Well I got to go get ready.” I pointed back at my room, with my thumb.
“See you later.” She said cheerfully
I went back into my room. I went straight to the bathroom. I need to take a shower, but I don’t have any soap or a towel. Maybe… I checked the cabinets under the sink. Luckily, under the sink there was a dark blue towel, and a medium sized bottle of lavender scented body wash. I hopped in the shower, and truly got clean. At the hospital you could take a bath, but I never felt completely clean. I felt much better after my shower. Now I need a brush. My hair was a tangled mess. I went back to cabinets, hoping they had everything that I needed. I opened the door, and lying right in from of me was a silver brush, waiting for me. They think of everything. I’m impressed.
I was closing the door when I noticed something in the back of the cabinet. I pulled it out to discover a blue tooth brush and a travel size tube of tooth paste. Once my hair was brushed and my teeth were squeaky clean I pulled on a new pair of jeans and a shirt. I went out to the lounge. Sara was still curled up on the couch reading. I peered over at her, trying to see the book she was reading. I’d never heard of it. She caught me looking at her.
