“On the way do you think we can stop somewhere to eat?” I’m starving. I haven’t eaten since eight o’clock this morning.

“Okay. I’ll find somewhere to eat once we’re on the road. Follow me.” He turned and headed out towards the parking lot. He walked over to a black limo and opened the door.

“You’re driving a limo?” I asked shocked. Why would a school hire a limo driver to pick me up? It’s so flashy and attracts unnecessary attention.

            “Yes. Why?”

“Well it’s just a little…” I groped for the right word “..a little flashy.”

“Oh, I guess it is a little. Oh well.” He shrugged his shoulders. He put my bag in the trunk of the limo and waited for me to get in. I slid into the limo and the driver closed the door after me. He walked around, got into the driver’s seat, and took off. After half an hour of driving he parked. Quickly he got out of the car and opened my door.

“Thank you” I said and he smiled at me. He had pulled into a restaurant called Tom Wahls. I’ve never even heard of it before. “What’s this place?”

“Tom Wahls, it’s a burger joint, with phenomenal food. They make their own root beer, and great root beer floats. Their burgers aren’t bad either. But I think the best thing on their menu is their chocolate milkshakes.” He smiled at me. I wanted to smile back at him but I didn’t have it me. I don’t feel much in a smiling mood. I nodded and went into the restaurant.

I ordered a hamburger, fries, and a chocolate milkshake. I have to admit that Tom was right their milkshakes are the perfect amount of chocolate, and ice cream. After I ate we went back to driving and went straight through until we arrived at the Institute. There was a long drive way leading to four buildings. I was expecting to see one gigantic building, but it was four large ones instead. The buildings were made of tan bricks with beautiful designs around the tops.

The buildings were placed so they made a square in between them. There was bright green grass and cement paths connecting all the buildings. I could see students walking around the campus. Some were carrying books, and others were just walking and talking with friends. I noticed that not many people were waking by themselves. Great everybody already has their group of friends.  It was mid-September and the semester has just started. So I hadn’t missed much. I got out of the car and walked over to the closest building. I stood there and stared at this new place that I would now call home.

“They are beautiful, are they not?” said a man’s voice.

Reflexively I jumped away from the voice. I turned, clawed my hands, and crouched. I bared my teeth preparing myself for anything. I had no idea what made me do that but I kept my stance. I stared at the man. He was tall with brown hair and yellow eyes. They are almost exactly the same as Lucas’ eyes. My chest tightened at the thought of Lucas. The man looked slightly surprised. Almost like he expected to get this reaction out of me but it still surprised him. He put his hands up in surrender. I stood up and relaxed.

“I’m sorry about that. I’ve never done that before. You really scared me. You really shouldn’t sneak up on people like that.” I realized I was starting to ramble. “Who are you?” I demanded.

“I’m William Ellington, the…” he paused “…the dean of this Institute.” He looked at me and smiled. “I’m here to help you get situated here. I’m going to show you around campus and to your dorm.”
