“I thought I was human, and I turned into a Myx.” I looked at Lucas. He looked so understanding. “What do Myxs have to do exactly?”

            “They stay with their Demons.”

“So Demons and Myxs are together 24/7?”

“Not all the time, but most of the time. Myxs and Demons can hate each other but they will stay together. The bond that is made makes them want to stay together. It is like there is something inside you yearning for that other person.”

I thought about what Lucas said. I may not even like the Demon I’m bonded to, but I’ll want to be with them. I’m going to be stuck with that Demon for the rest of my life.  I don’t want to be stuck with some jerk. I want someone nice, and gentle. Someone like Lucas. I want to be Lucas’ mate. That would be the most wonderful thing to happen.

“Navia, what are you thinking about?” Lucas asked breaking my train of thought.

“Nothing special” I lied. “Why do you ask?”

“Well, you are staring at me with a peculiar look. Not that I mind. Your eyes are beautiful. They remind me of a meadow in spring, so green and bright.” I felt my cheeks warm. “You truly are the most beautiful creature to walk the earth.”

“Stop Lucas. You shouldn’t say things like that.” I fidgeted with my hands, and looked away.

“Why? They are entirely true. You are beautiful Navia. Never let anyone tell you otherwise. If they do they are jealous and envy you.”

            “Please stop.”

“Why are you so unused to such praise? You should be told this every day. Did people not tell you this before?” Lucas looked shocked, and confused.

“Well my mom and Vicki used to tell me. But no one else ever said that to me.”

“Certainly guys in your high school commented on your beauty. High school boy’s thoughts usually do not get far from girls.”

“Yeah some guys would hit on me, but none of them said things like you do. The way you say it, it feels more amazing, more truthful, more real. It’s like you really mean it and those guys were just messing around.”

“I do mean it, every word.” He put his hand over his heart. “On my honor, I swear that everything I say is truth.”

“Oh Lucas, look at what I’ve done. I’ve ruined your shirt.” His shirt was soaked in my tears and stretched out from where I grabbed it. “I’m so sorry.” I felt terrible.

“It is fine Navia. It is just a shirt. You needed it to dry your tears.”

“But it’s all stretched out. Do you have another one?”

“No, but it is just a shirt.” In one quick motion Lucas pulled off his shirt, and threw it to the floor.

I almost fainted right there. His chest is perfect. It looks so smooth. Lucas wasn’t overly buff or anything but he definitely had pecks and some solid abs. His arms looked strong. Lucas was laying there next to me half naked. Desire washed over me. I want to touch his chest, just to see if the skin there really is smooth. I could feel my cheeks getting hot. My insides were on fire. Whoa, I have never wanted anything like that before. I immediately tried to push further thoughts about Lucas’ chest back. I can think about his chest later when it isn’t displayed in front of me. I’d never been in a situation like this before. More thoughts continued to pop into my head, and I continued to try to ignore them. I need to focus on something else than Lucas’ gorgeous body.

“Navia” Lucas said catching my attention “you are giving me another strange look.” He looks confused, and curious.

He must understand how gorgeous he is. I was scared to open my mouth. Something bad might slip out. Slowly I reached out my hand and touched his chest. Impossibly it was even smoother than I thought it was. It felt just below room temperature. It felt nice under the heat of my palm. A tingly feeling rushed through my fingers, up my arm and through the rest of my body. I needed more. I pushed myself against Lucas’ body. He gently cupped my face with one hand. He had a relaxed smile on his face.

He closed his eyes and whispered my name “Navia.” A shiver shook my body. Lucas opened his eyes and caressed my cheek with his thumb. “It appears that I require a new shirt.” Guilt washed through me. “How about tomorrow I sneak you out, and you and I go get a new one.”

Is he asking me out? No probably not, it’s just to get a new shirt. I couldn’t think of anything to say so I nodded my head.

            “Good” he said sounding content.

For the rest of the day we talked about a little bit of everything. We had a few things in common, but we found a few things to argue about as well. For example, Lucas thought that music from the twenties was the best, where I thought that music from the nineties was the best. We had a very detailed argument over which music was best. I tried to talk him about his life.

I want to know what kind of things he’s done in his life. He’s probably been around for a while, he’s most likely traveled the world.

Whenever we would talk about him he became hesitant and gave short answers. He would then immediately try to change the subject. I never pushed him but it made me even more curious. It seemed like talking about himself was a sore subject, and I couldn’t help but wonder why. We talked late into the night. I fell asleep in his arms, completely at ease. Lucas makes me feel so safe and comfortable. That night I dreamt of Vicki. It was a good dream. It was of when we were young and playing in a sand box. Back then everything was so simple, and carefree.

I woke the next morning in a wonderful mood. I’m ready to spend the day out of this hospital, with Lucas. I turned around to face him expecting to see his eyes open, but they weren’t. Instead they were shut, and Lucas looked like he was in a deep sleep. I laid there and watched him for twenty minutes. The expression on his face is sad.

I snuggled up close to him. He smelt so good, it was tantalizing. I gave him a kiss and then pulled back to see his expression. Slowly a smile appeared on his face. I kissed him again, and this time his lips responded to mine. I rested my forehead against his. Slowly his hand moved up my body. His hand slid up my stomach, and trailed up my arm. It stopped on my neck, where he began to draw circles. Heat filled my body where he touched me. Lucas’ eyes opened.

But behind his eyes weren’t the golden yellow color I was expecting to see. Lucas’s eyes were coal black. There was no white to be seen in his eyes. Lucas brought his face to my neck, rubbing his face against it. He pulled away and looked at me. I was completely frozen by my shock and fear. He opened his mouth, and I saw his fangs fully extended. Oh my god he’s about to bite me. He wants to drink my blood. They looked extremely sharp. Though they were dangerous, they somehow seemed beautiful. I couldn’t help but admire them.

It would be awesome to see Lucas’ fangs if he wasn’t about to bite me. “Lucas p…” my voice cracked “..please don’t.” I could hear my voice shaking. “Don’t bite me, please.”

The black disappeared from Lucas’ eyes and his golden yellow pupils returned. He looked like he was in a trance, and couldn’t actually see strait. But then his eyes came to life and he really saw me.

“Navia, I am so sorry.” His fangs retracted. “Have I hurt you?” he pushed my neck from side to side examining it.

            “No I’m fine.”

“Please forgive me.” I nodded my head.
